We’ve compiled a list of must-have items students will need when moving away for uni

If you’re a fresher student moving away for university, it can be quite overwhelming to make sure you have everything you need to settle into uni life away from home. Thankfully, Amazon sells a variety of university essentials for your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom so that you can buy everything you need in one place.

We’ve compiled the below list of essential products we think every fresher going off to university will need, whether you’re moving into a halls of residence or other accommodation. It includes obvious items such as bedding and towels, as well as products more easily forgotten about, such as coat hangers and a clothes airer.

There may be more items that you require, but hopefully our collection will help ensure you don’t leave any major essentials behind. We’ll also hopefully save you a bit of money in the process, thanks to Amazon often having unbeatable prices.

Of course, other retailers such as Dunelm and John Lewis sell items perfect for university, but few offer the variety of products that Amazon does. Many of the online giant’s uni items also come with discounts and free shipping, which other shops don’t offer.

Kitchen

While some students will opt to only cook using the microwave or oven, others will be a little more adventurous and wish to use the hob. For this, you’ll want to add the Tefal Taste Twin Pack Aluminium Frying Pans (£19.99) and Morphy Richards Saucepan (£13.99) to your list, as you can’t guarantee your flatmates or housemates will have any you can borrow.

You’ll want to make sure you have your own plate, bowl, cup and cutlery to take to uni with you. Amazon is selling a handy Belle Vous 4-Piece Plastic Navy Dinnerware Set comprising all four times for £12.49.

If you plan on cooking while at uni, you’ll need some utensils to help you create delicious meals. Amazon has a set of three utensils costing £6.99 which includes a spatula, spoon and slotted spoon.

Bedroom

Not only will you need bedding and a spare set if you don’t plan on washing, drying and getting the sheets back on your bed in one day, but you also won’t want to forget to buy the actual duvet and pillows. Amazon is currently offering a pack of two Silentnight Deep Sleep Pillows for £13, down from £16.99.

As for duvets, if you’re lucky enough to have a room with a double bed, you can buy the matching Silentnight Deep Sleep Double 13.5 Tog Duvet that’s currently on sale for £27, down from £36. The single version of the duvet is also discounted, with it costing £24.77, down from £30.

If you’re a keen reader or like to sit in a softer light in the evening, you will want to make sure you have a lamp with you for your bedside table. Amazon has a Touch Control Table Lamp costing £18.99 (RRP £29.99) that also comes with handy USB A+C charging ports.

An arguably less important but still essential item that you mustn’t forget to take away to university is coat hangers. Unless you want to live in creased clothes and be unable to see your bedroom floor, you’ll want to purchase Amazon’s pack of 20 KEPLIN Velvet Hangers for £8.99.

If your university accommodation doesn’t have a tumble dryer, be sure to pack a clothes airer. Amazon is selling a slim three-tier indoor airer for £24.48, ensuring plenty of drying space for your clothes, underwear, bedding or towels.

Bathroom

If you’re one of the lucky students who have an ensuite, you’ll want to purchase a bath and toilet mat to keep your bathroom floor dry and your feet clean. Amazon is selling a LuxUrux Bath Mat Set comprising both of these items for £16.79.

Whatever the bathroom situation is in your uni accommodation, you’ll need to pack your own bath towel and hand towel. You can buy a 100% cotton Towelogy Luxe Bath Towel Set for £13.10 from Amazon in white, grey or turquoise.

It’s not very hygienic to leave your toothbrush on the side of the sink or keep it in a drawer or toiletry bag in your bedroom. You may want to purchase a toothbrush holder that you can leave in your ensuite or keep in your bedroom to carry through to your shared bathroom when needed. This £6.99 toothbrush tumbler is a simple but effective option.
