The boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will take place on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will be shown on Netflix
Fans have demanded Jake Paul to show “receipts” after the Youtuber-turned-boxer revealed his eye-watering fight purse when he steps into the ring against Mike Tyson.
The highly-anticipated bout between 27-year-old Paul and 58-year-old Tyson is set for November in Texas, eight months after the initial date due to an ulcer flare-up which stopped Tyson from training properly in the lead up to the fight.
The postponement only exacerbated concerns about the fight’s impact on the former heavyweight champion of the world. Paul, known as ‘The Problem Child’, has a record of 10-1, with 6 KOs, while Iron Mike is at 50-6, with 44 KOs.
However, he has not fought since 2020 in an exhibition match against another legendary boxer, Roy Jones Jr., who was 51 at the time. His last competitive boxing match came in June 2005 when he was on the end of a stoppage defeat to Kevin McBride.
“Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good,” Tyson said following the announcement. With the fight a few months away and both boxers back in camp, the pair have been on their respective promotion campaigns.
And this week, Paul revealed he is set to take home a staggering $40million (£31million) from the fight. “I didn’t bring him to do s***; I’m here to make $40m (£31m) and knock out a legend,” he said in a press conference. “I don’t give a f*** about anything else, he’s the one who wanted it to be a pro fight and he’s going to get his ass knocked out for real.
“You’re going to see on his record; Jake Paul KOs Mike Tyson; I’m not here to do s**t except make a bag. Every time fighters sit across from me and it’s ‘YouTuber this and Disney kid that’ and they end up on the canvas… this is going to be no different.
“I brought this deal to this old ass motherf***er, we signed the contract with Netflix and we brought him the deal. You’re welcome, my son.”
The claim has been met with demands from fans to see the “receipts” of the supposed windfall. “We are living in the scammers’ paradise era,” one person tweeted, as a second added: “Let’s see the receipts!”
“The more people hate on him the more money he makes. It’s all part of the shtick,” a third pointed out. Others branded the situation “scandalous” and “wild”.
On the upcoming fight, Tyson admitted: “I’m a glory junkie. I love people thinking about me all day. I’d rather live a short life of glory than a long life of obscurity. It’s just who I am.
“This is all I started fighting for—to get all this f***ing status. I’m going to be chasing it for the rest of my life. I know that. I’m never going to get what I want, because I’m one of those gluttons for pain. I can never get enough.”
