An urban explorer has managed to get a look inside an abandoned “Walking Dead” prison with a creepy medicial wing and dentist’s room.
30-year-old Ben spent hours wandering round the different buildings that make up the centre including cell blocks, the visitation hall, the gymnasium and a cafeteria. He also found the medical wing and dentist’s room.
He described the experience like something from “The Walking Dead” – with much of seasons 3 and 4 shot inside a prison.
“I was really surprised when I was sent the location of this place,” Ben, from Cambridge, told What’s The Jam. “I went alone. It was about 42 C in there, which was disgusting. I explored every single building.
“The whole place was very eerie because it was so big. It was like something out of an apocalyptic movie. But getting to do this alone felt very special.
“My favourite thing about the prison was that it had so many different buildings and units.”
Ben has travelled all over the world to fulfil his passion for exploring. He has visited abandoned hospitals in Japan, theme parks in the US and even funeral homes that have been left forgotten.
But there was something special about the prison and Ben relished the opportunity to inspect the site’s many units.
Located in Florida, US, it was originally a youth detention centre for 18 to 21-year-olds. Ben had travelled to Florida for the week to get away after splitting from his partner and managed to get inside after spending hours trying to find a way in.
The site was reportedly closed down a few years ago due to a lack of funding. Ben said: “It was a very cool and unique place. I think the sheer size of it made it quite creepy.”
