The Telegraph has released a list of 20 secret and remote beaches in the UK, with one South Devon beach being named the number one spot to avoid the crowds this summer
A hidden secret “magical” British beach has been named the top spot to visit this summer after seeing off stiff competition.
The South Devon beach is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering an escape for family outings, adventures with friends, or solo trips. The UK boasts over 11,000 miles of coastline and countless beaches, but a simple Google search will often lead you to crowded tourist hotspots. However, the Telegraph has curated a list of 20 secluded and remote beaches to enjoy a crowd-free summer, featuring South Devon’s very own Ayrmer Cove.
Ayrmer Cove is a tucked-away treasure that can only be reached on foot, with the nearest parking and toilet facilities a 20-minute walk away. The beach is nestled on the outskirts of the historic village of Ringmore, just 16 miles from Plymouth and 8 miles from the market town of Kingsbridge.
This secluded cove is an ideal spot for paddling in the sea or exploring rock pools at low tide, where marine life thrives. A Telegraph expert shared: “This cove is so secret that it can only be reached by foot, meaning you’re a lot less likely to run into any sunbathing spot snatcher.”
“To reach it, you need to join the South West Coast Path at Challaborough and take a rather steep walk over the headland. As you go, catch your breath by stopping to ogle the art deco Burgh Island Hotel across the water – a glamourous old writing retreat for Agatha Christie.”, reports Devon Live. “After a day of lolling on the beach head to the Journeys End Inn – a fantastic village pub.”
