Patrick Reed will make his return to the DP World Tour this week, with the American one of five members of the LIV Golf setup teeing it up in Madrid for the Spanish Open
Patrick Reed is one of five LIV Golf stars set to return to the DP World Tour this week. He will be teeing off at the Spanish Open in Madrid, alongside Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton from Legion XIII, and David Puig and Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra from Fireballs.
Despite being banned from the PGA Tour due to his allegiance with LIV, Reed can still participate in events on the European circuit. The 34-year-old, who wrapped up his 2024 LIV campaign last week in Dallas, has no outstanding sanctions with the DP World Tour, making him eligible to accept a tournament invite.
American golfer Reed has always had a strong bond with the European-based tour, which was celebrated in 2019 when he was bestowed with honorary life membership following his Masters triumph the previous year. “I have always loved coming over, playing on the European Tour, and showing my support,” he stated in July 2023.
“I took pride in being the one American who always came over consistently. Hopefully, everything will work out and I can get back to doing that. I have been everywhere: the big events, and smaller events. It wasn’t like I only came over and played in the big events, I showed support consistently.
“Once I got my card I kept coming over, kept showing support, and tried to play at least the minimum number of tournaments every year. Getting honorary life membership as only the fourth American and the only American still out playing meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to me to come over and play, to show support to the entire tour.”
The US star’s schedule post-LIV isn’t confined to just Spain either. A week later, Reed will be seen in Scotland where he’s secured another tournament invitation at the prestigious Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Taking place across St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns, Reed will join an impressive lineup that boasts the likes of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. The week will also see a strong presence from the LIV league, with Reed, Rahm, Hatton, and Brooks Koepka among 14 players from the breakaway league participating.
