The couple shared a short video of their swimming experience on YouTube to warn others of the dangers in the jungle as they were left itchy and hospitalised
A couple’s dreamy dip in a jungle stream quickly turned into a nightmare after they decided to take the plunge.
The adventurous duo shared their experience on YouTube, with a voiceover warning viewers: “You better think twice about jumping into random jungle water.” Their brief foray into the picturesque waters served as a stark warning of the perils lurking beneath the surface of such enticing natural spots.
Despite the allure of a seemingly enchanting waterfall tunnel, the pair soon found themselves in a frantic scramble to get out and ended up in hospital. Charlie Oliver Bates, the content creator, described how he and his partner Aidyn had to descend to the stream using a makeshift ladder of tree roots before leaping into the water.
However, it wasn’t long before their idyllic swim took a turn for the worse. Charlie disclosed: “As we swam over to the waterfall tunnel, we felt things kinda nibbling on our bodies, and as we made it up to the rocks we both became very itchy.”
He continued: “A quick Google search showed that we had Swimmer’s Itch, also known as parasites burrowing into our bodies. So we got checked out by medical professionals and fortunately we made a full recovery.”
Charlie’s chilling video on the dangers of unknown waters has sparked a wave of personal tales of terror and tragedy, with many echoing the sentiment to avoid taking the plunge into mysterious pools. One user commented: “Yeah I live in Australia and I would never just jump into a random body of water, there’s pretty much always at least 1 thing in there that can kill you.”
Another chimed in with advice: “Rule of thumb.. if you don’t see other tourists swimming.. don’t be the first. Even seeing locals swimming is not an indication of safe water… gotta be tourists.”
