New Maltesers 440g ‘buckets’ have hit the shelves of WHSmith stores, but chocolate lovers slammed the price after details of the product emerged over on Instagram
Maltesers, the iconic chocolate and malted honeycomb treat, are known for their various sizes and formats, ranging from standard bags to sharer packs and gift boxes.
Now, the treat has been launched in a brand-new ‘bucket’ size container, and causing a stir on social media. The indulgent 440g tubs have been spotted by UK Newest Foods (@uknewestfoods), an Instagram account famed for discovering fresh snacks in stores nationwide.
This time, their hunt led them to WHSmith, where they uncovered the new Maltesers product. Alongside snaps of the tubs, the savvy foodie shared: “Maltesers Tubs at WHSmith for £16.99. (Available for £11.32 each for 3 tubs in the 3 for 2 deal).”
It prompted feelings of disappointment from chocoholics regarding the pricing, however, as one disgruntled fan moaned: “These are way more expensive than last year.” Another added: “I hope that is an airport price and not regular.”
Others were less kind, with one consumer criticising: “I was so happy to see the buckets are back but 16.99? Nah that’s daylight robbery!” And someone else claimed: “That bucket is probably 60% air as well.”
At present, the major supermarkets are yet to stock the product, but bargain hunters might recall spotting them on the shelves of B&M last year, retailing at the considerably lower price of £3.
It was reported by TikTok user at the time: “We finally got our hands on these massive Maltesers Buckets from @B&M Stores a banging 440g bucket filled to the brim for just £3,” adding advice to act fast because “they won’t hang around for long at this price!”
One Instagram user expressed their surprise at the WHSmith price, claiming they recently spotted the same product in their local B&M store this year. “Wow!” they exclaimed. “You can buy a 310g box for £4 in B&M yet these are quadruple the price and only 440g.”
WHSmith has been reached out for response.
