It’s time to check your cupboards and sell some of that ageing tech.
Millions of us could be sitting on a small fortune and missing out on a nice bonus by not getting rid of our old tech. That’s according to new a report from O2 who says the average home could make around £446 by cashing in and selling devices such as phones, tablets and laptops. That’s a tidy sum of money, especially with Christmas just around the corner.
O2 reckons that since it launched its Recycle service back in 2009 it has recycled almost four million devices and paid out £347 million to consumers. It’s very simple to take advantage, just head to the firm’s website, tell them what tech you have and what condition it is in and then send it off and wait to get paid.
Here’s what some of your tech could be worth.
On average, O2 Recycle pays out:
£80.16 for consoles
£53.52 for earbuds
£205.17 for laptops or MacBooks
£136.46 for smartphones
£144.52 for tablets
£81.36 for wearables/smartwatches
Of course, O2 is not the only firm to offer cash for devices so it’s worth shopping around at other sites such as MusicMagpie, Mazuma Mobile and Money 4 My Tech. But if you have drawers full of old iPhones, Windows PCs and Android gadgets it’s worth seeing just how much they are worth.
By handing them over they are also getting a new life rather than heading straight to landfill.
Speaking about the latest stats, Nicola Green from Virgin Media O2 said: “Brits are sitting on a treasure trove of unused tech worth almost £450 which could earn them much needed extra cash in time for Christmas while also reducing e-waste.
“With our O2 Recycle service, anyone can send in their unwanted devices – from phones to laptops and consoles – and boost their festive finances. Meanwhile their old tech can be given a second life or recycled – with zero parts going to landfill.”
