If your oven door is covered in grime, discover cleaning whizz Melissa George’s ‘magic’ solution to removing tough stains without using harsh chemicals
Oven doors can be a real nightmare to clean, but it looks like there’s a “magic” solution to lift those stubborn stains right off the glass without going Hulk-mode on your appliances.
If you don’t keep on top of cleaning your oven door, you can expect a nasty build-up of food and grease baked onto the glass. It can be a cleaning headache to budge, but fear not as Melissa George, founder of Polished Habitat, has spilled the beans on the ultimate hack for tackling it. Melissa explains: “Is your oven glass dirty? Try this simple and affordable tip for cleaning your oven window without spray chemicals!”
And the best bit? All you need is a box of Mr Clean’s Magic Erasers. This sponge is made from melamine foam, which acts like a mild abrasive. It means you can say ta-ra to tough scrubbing and avoid dousing your kitchen in harsh chemicals.
Keen to share her wisdom, Melissa let us in on how she uses the Magic Eraser to get the best results, promising that even the muckiest of oven doors will come up like new.
“Want to give your oven door a new lease of life?” enthuses Melissa. “Grab a couple of Mr Clean’s Magic Erasers, one dry and the other just a tad wet, and watch as the dreaded caked-on crud vanishes. I found alternating between wet and dry Magic Erasers worked the best to get rid of all the grime. If your oven is in anything near the Code Red situation mine was, you’re going to want two Magic Erasers for this job.”
Similar to a pencil rubber, Magic Erasers break down as you use them. It’s just a case of gently rubbing the sponge onto the grubby surface and swapping them over as they start to wear down. Tackling one small section at a time is more effective than haphazardly scrubbing across a larger area – it’s all about the pressure application.
“Because we had years of gunk, including the brief, but scary, fire hitting the door, I did have to use some heavy pressure in places,” Melissa admitted. “But if you keep at it, within approximately 10 minutes, even the most stubborn scorched spots should be history.”
