Condensation can be quite an annoying problem to deal with, but according to one woman on TikTok, following her simple hack could prevent it from coming back on your windows
You know winter has arrived when condensation is appearing on your windows.
The problem occurs when warm air collides with cold surfaces – or when there’s way too much humidity in your home. When the moisture comes into contact with a cold surface, it cools down quickly and releases the water – leading to condensation.
It’s crucial to tackle the situation when it happens as condensation can lead to structural damage, such as wood rotting and even mould, which could become harmful. Using extractor fans and ensuring there’s ventilation is usually the way forward.
But now one woman revealed her handy hack to banish condensation and stop it from coming back. In a post on TikTok, Anita Birges, who boasts 75,100 followers, revealed the “best winter home hack you will see today”.
In a video, she said: “It’s for all that condensation build up we get at the bottom of our glass windows and doors in winter. Check out how I do it! Now these are the windows in my lounge room, but this condensation problem is happening all over my home.
“Grab your dishwashing liquid and a dry microfibres cloth, put a small amount on and let’s get to it. Starting from the top, I want you to rub vigorously all over the window, including the frame.
“If your cloth is getting too wet, replace it with a dry one and keep on going. The dishwashing liquid creates a barrier which stops condensation coming back.”
Anita continued by explaining how she only used this “magical hack” on the middle window as she wanted followers to see the difference a day after. She concluded: “Look at this! I’m going to be going around and doing the whole house now.”
Since she shared the handy clip, it racked up 3,700 likes and dozens of comments. One said: “Oh my goodness! My house is so damp and every morning in the winter I have to dry lots of windows. I so hope this works for me!”
Another added: “For years I have been doing this for my glasses as well, stops them from fogging up.” A third commented: “Oh wow! I’m going to do this. The condensation is so bad at the moment.” While a fourth admitted: “Definitely need to try this.”
