Hollywood star Paul Mescal was shown three finalists from a lookalike competition in Dublin and he also was able to pick out the eventual winner for one key reason
Paul Mescal has given his verdict on a lookalike competition where he also picked out the actual winner due to one item.
Fans of the Hollywood star descended in their hundreds to Smithfield Square in Dublin last week for the unofficial competition with many arriving in white shorts and hoodies, emulating Paul’s fashion.
The event was held at the Irish capital ahead of the actor’s appearance at the Irish premiere of Gladiator ll and the competition was tight. Finalists were lined up and the crowd was asked to clap each contestant with the winner the one who received the loudest applause.
While the real Mescal wasn’t at the competition he has said how he did know about it and looking at three finalists he did manage to pick out the winner as well.
“I found out about this while I was in Dublin,” he told Absolute Radio before being shown three contestants. Asked who he thought won he said: “I’m going to go for either one or two.”
And then due to his headphones Paul picked out the actual look alike winner. He explained: “I know they both have wired headphones but the wired headphones on this one are more prominent so I’m going to go for this one here.”
Jack Wall O’Reilly was the winner of the competition which saw him bag £20 or three pints. In his acceptance speech he said: ‘I think there’s a Paul Mescal in all of us and uh thanks everyone for coming out.”
Jack revealed that he had received numerous messages urging him to enter the contest, so he decided to give it a shot. Speaking to RTE Lifestyle, Jack said: “I think [ Paul Mescal ] is a very stylish man, I didn’t have to buy anything for today, so that helped.” He added that the competition was just a bit of fun and there were plenty of good looking Paul Mescal lookalikes present.
Lookalike competitions are popular at the moment and there was also an event for a Timothee Chalamet doppelgänger where the actor actually turned up himself. Flanked by bodyguards he posed for photos alongside some of the lookalikes who were dressed up in his characters like Willy Wonka.
It was one of several contests hosted by YouTube personality Anthony Po with news of the event going viral on social media and the winner claiming $50.
