A Wetherspoon employee has revealed how the pub chain’s eggs are cooked, leaving fans baffled
Wetherspoon, with its weekly steak club and a ramen dish that’s touted to “rival Wagamama”, is the go-to for budget-friendly meals for many.
The pub chain’s breakfast offerings are another highlight, with a spread that ranges from the quintessential full English fry-up to American-style pancakes, all presented on their signature blue and white patterned plates.
Regulars at the watering hole might already know that many menu items are cooked in the microwave, fried or grilled, rather than being whipped up fresh to order. However, patrons have been left scratching their heads upon discovering the preparation method behind one of Wetherspoon’s breakfast favourites, reports the Express.
A TikTok video by user @dobbysc00chie, which was originally shared in 2022, explained just how the establishment achieves its uniform, round poached eggs.
The employee disclosed that the eggs are actually pre-poached, rather than freshly poached per individual order. Their post read: “Explaining to a customer that they can’t have poached eggs as they’re pre-poached and are out of stock.
“I actually never told customers they were pre-poached, I just flat out said no, or offered fried eggs instead.”
The revelation left TikTok viewers in a state of wonder, one commenting: “”Pre poached”?? I have so many questions not sure if I actually want answers though.”
Another wrote: “HOW DO YOU PREPOACH AN EGG?!” while a third wrote: “How tf do u get pre poached eggs.”
“This explains a lot,” said one user. “I was SO confused when I was told they had no poached eggs and would I like fried?” Another said: “I just say the poacher is broken and they just agree.”
A former employee of Wetherspoon commented: “The highlight of working a spoons breakfast shift.” And another TikTok user wrote: “Tbf I think a lot more places do this than ppl realise.”
