Birmingham German Christmas Market is now open and festive revellers have noticed prices have increased since last year, including the cost of a beer and bratwurst
The festive season has officially kicked off in Birmingham with the opening of the city’s Frankfurt Christmas Market on Friday, 1 November.
Regulars at the German market may notice a slight increase in some prices compared to last year, including the staple beer and bratwurst. The beloved market, now in its 24th year, has returned to Victoria Square and New Street, offering the usual array of food and drink that locals and visitors look forward to each year. From bratwursts, pretzels, hot glühwein, boozy hot chocolates, burgers, roasted almonds and garlic bread, there’s something for everyone.
And it’s not just about the food – there are also other delightful treats such as tree decorations, jewellery, toys and handmade gifts available across the 60 stalls. The Christmas market runs from New Street to Victoria Square and is open daily until Christmas Eve.
However, those planning to enjoy a beer and bratwurst in the city centre will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets this year. Prices remained the same last year, with a pint and a bratwurst costing £12.50, but this year sees a price hike due to rising costs of ingredients and labour.
A pint and a regular red or white bratwurst will now set customers back £13.50, with both the bratwurst and beer seeing a 50p increase from last year’s prices of £6 and £6.50 respectively.
The cost of a half-metre-long bratwurst has also seen an increase, jumping from £8 to £9. However, the prices of other festive favourites have remained steady, with garlic bread still priced at £4 and crepes starting from £4.50.
