I’m A Celebrity’s Dean McCullough is set to take on another trial tonight alongside McFly’s Danny Jones, with the show’s hosts saying the Radio 1 host needs ‘all the help he can get’ after a series of flops
Dean McCullough’s I’m A Celebrity bushtucker trial woes have started grating on the hosts of the show while his famous campmates go without a proper meal for another day.
Sam Thompson accused Dean of having a ‘game plan’ while Ant McPartlin fumed the Radio 1 DJ has left him acting ‘unprofessional’ as he failed to hide his annoyance with his trial failures as the pair tore into Dean on last night’s ITV spin-off show Unpacked.
Earlier in the night, viewers had joked that Ant looked seriously peeved as Dean flopped his third trial in three days. The radio star was called up to take on Lethal Lab but ended up crying for the trial to stop after collecting just four stars.
As he moved between containment areas, Dean couldn’t face having fish guts poured over him as he yelled “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” After being released, Dean seemed pleased with his four stars for camp and headed back to break the news. Pleased with his efforts, Alan Halsall and Barry McGuigan ran him a bubble bath to enjoy, while Danny Jones gave him a head massage as a reward to say well done.
However, away from the main show, I’m A Celebrity’s hosts were left fuming by Dean’s antics. Appearing on ITV2 spin off Unpacked, Ant McParlin admitted he couldn’t hide his annoyance with the broadcaster’s efforts.
Tonight, Dean will be joined by Danny Jones as they take on the next trial together. Heaping praise on McFly’s Danny, Dec said : “He’s enthusiastic, he’s determined. There’s no hiding for Dean now he will have to step up.”
Ant agreed that being with Danny will force Dean to ‘raise his game’.’
Sam Thompson joked that Ant would have to work on his poker face if he doesn’t. “My annoyance came across onscreen. I was unprofessional I’m not happy about it,” replied Ant.
“I think you hid it quite well Ant…” said Dec rolling hie eyes. “I just won’t make small talk anymore,” Ant replied, as the presenters joked he put Dean off by telling him what critters would be joining him on the trials.
Sam Thompson, who won the show in 2023, continued to add fuel to the fire – accusing Dean of having a game plan. The ITV2 presenter said Dean’s phobia’s ‘didn’t make sense’ as he quit the trial over fish guts but was OK to face snakes.
Sam suggested what Dean was ‘freaking out over’ didn’t make sense. The former Made in Chelsea star said he’s growing more cynical of Dean’s antics by the day and questioning if he has a game plan.
Standing up for Dean, Joel Dommett said ‘you couldn’t deny’ that he was a ‘brilliant campmate’ and made ‘great TV.’ He also laughed at the way the star had managed to manipulate his co-stars into treating him like a prince after failing the trials and leaving them hungry.
“I think he’s great. It is calculated what he’s doing… but i don’t mean that in a negative way,” added Joel. “He is making great telly.”
Ahead of the trial, the Mirror spoke to Dean’s mum who said her boy is a winner in her eyes.
Dean McCullough’s mum says he is a winner in her eyes, despite his repeated struggles in the show’s trials.
Ann, 55, said her son is trying his best and thinks he would be criticising his trials performance too: “The trials have been tough, and he’ll be beating himself up over it.
“He just needs to remember to do his best and have fun. I’m so proud of him. He is so loved and we are all cheering him on.”
Ann said that despite his dodgy start, her son could even go all the way on the ITV show. She said: “Dean definitely has got what it takes to be king – and queen – of the jungle.”
