Nick Knowles sustained the knee injury on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing during a dress rehearsal disaster when he did a jump and took a bad landing in early October
Nick Knowles has revealed the knee injury he suffered on Strictly Come Dancing will take nine months to fully heal.
The DIY SOS presenter will have surgery following the dress rehearsal disaster, which reportedly saw the star do a jump and take a bad landing last month. The 62-year-old presenter had to quit the BBC show as a result of the injury, which happened weeks after hapless Nick hurt his shoulder and arm whilst changing a car tyre.
Despite the long recovery process, Nick hopes to be in shape to tie the knot to fiancée Katie Dadzie, 33, next summer. They got engaged last year after meeting through their children.
“We’ve booked our wedding for next summer and the plan is for us to be able to do a first dance. It won’t be a full Strictly routine but I’m determined to have a special dance with Katie,” Nick, who has presented DIY SOS on the BBC since 1999, said.
The TV veteran praised his “amazing”fiancée for taking him to his hospital appointments and even “to put his trousers on” as he can’t do that himself currently.
Nick added he is resting until February, by which time he is supposed to record the next batch of DIY SOS episodes. It means it is unlikely the presenter will be able to join the rest of the Strictly contestants for the end of the series group dance, anticipated on Saturday December 14 when the season finishes.
Father-of-four Nick, who was born in Southall, west London, proposed to Katie in New Orleans, Louisiana last July with a Haribo ring, The Sun reports. Before which, Nick defended his girlfriend when vicious twitter bullies branded her a “gold digger” after noting the 27-year age gap between the pair.
Nick was married to his first wife Gillian, from 1995 until 2000 and then moved on to date TV presenter Suzi Perry from 2000 until 2003. The DIY guru then married Jessica Moore – who is 26-years his junior – and welcomed a son named Eddie with the TV star prior to their split in 2016.
Strictly, meanwhile, prepares for its first ever samba-thon, which will air tonight. The dance-a-thon first appeared on the ballroom competition in 2009, and the last time it featured was in 2018, where the couples all danced the lindy hop.
It’s a common format in Ballroom and Latin competitions around the world, and now the celebrities have a chance to show the judges what they’re made of.
The celebs and their pro partners will all perform one routine as normal before the Samba-Thon starts. They’ll then all return to dance floor and start dancing the samba as a group.
