Police are investigating the boyfriend of a young woman who fell to her death from a sixth floor apartment after it emerged the pair had argued moments before her plunge.
Maria Jose Calle Gonzalez, 23, died after falling from the sixth floor of a building on Monday, 25th November following a struggle with her boyfriend, according to a police statement. Boyfriend Jorge Garrido told cops that the pair had quarrelled over relationship problems after she came to visit him at his apartment in the city of Monteria in northern Colombia.
According to his statement, the couple got into an argument and they started to struggle because Maria wanted to jump from the window. He told investigators that scratches found on his neck were a result of this altercation.
However forensic examinations have found signs of violence on the body of the deceased, which occurred prior to the fall, suggesting that the woman might have been attacked and trying to defend herself.
Witnesses reported hearing an argument coming from the apartment before a loud noise and cries for help. Upon arriving at the scene witnesses reported finding the woman dead at the foot of the building.
Some said that the pair had appeared to be drinking in the hours before the incident and that Garrido seemed. Detectives are currently reviewing security footage as part of their investigation, which is ongoing.
