Experts over at Victorian Plumbing have hailed a cheap but effective hack to banish stubborn stains and leave your bath tub looking brand new. Plus, it’ll only set you back 94p
Transform your dingy bathtub back to its former glory with this expert-approved hack. We all love a good soak in the tub, especially during the colder months. They’re a great way to beat the winter chill, are perfect after a long commute in the pouring rain, and have a number of health benefits including lowering stress, soothing sore muscles, and even help you fall asleep faster.
However, a night of pampering with bubbles and a candle sounds less idyllic if your tub is caked in filth. Whether it’s soap scum from your morning showers or flakes of limescale that have fallen from the tap – our tubs can get grim pretty quickly. If you’re used to reaching straight for the bleach and chemical-filled bathroom cleaners: stop. There’s a much more natural, and cheaper, method to get your tub looking brand new again.
Experts over at Victorian Plumbing have hailed white vinegar and baking soda as the holy grail of bathroom cleaners. In a blog post, they recommend removing the bath matt, toiletries, soaps, and toys resting on the side of the tub before getting started. “For a homemade bath cleaner, dilute equal parts of white vinegar and water and use a spray bottle to apply all over your bath,” the cleaning ace’s said. “Leave the solution to work for 15 minutes, then wipe away with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.”
Then, they recommend that Brits sprinkle the tub with a thin layer of baking soda and spray the vinegar solution over. Once the concoction has bubbled away for a few minutes, scrub with a sponge until a paste forms. “Leave the paste for 15 minutes, then wipe away and rinse clean,” the pros added.

Want to give the hack a go? You can pick up baking soda from your nearest supermarket or general store for as little as 59p. Similarly, white vinegar will only set you back 35p from stores such as Tesco – meaning this entire hack comes to a grand total of just 94p – almost half the price of a supermarket bathroom cleaner like Astonish.
Baking soda and white vinegar can also be used to unclog drains, remove limescale, get rid of soap scum around your sink taps, and quell any bad odours. However, if you have special finishes such as brushed brass, matte black, or chrome – you should double check before using acidic cleaning products such as vinegar as it could permanently tarnish it.
