Supernanny Jo Frost divided her followers with a recent post in which she offered a stern warning to parents regarding a key part of raising they kids
With Christmas just around the corner, Supernanny Jo Frost has issued a warning to parents in a bid to save them money.
The childcare guru, 54, shared some of her top tips on her Instagram account – and told parents they must “wise up”. She aimed her tough opinion in the direction of baby nappies adverts. She claimed people were being “fooled” by the ads and instead urged them to potty train their kids at a younger ages.
“Diaper brands want your toddlers in nappies longer so you spend more money but helping your child ASAP with their developmental milestone should be your focus,” she said before adding: “Parents wise up, these companies are loving the excuses you make for why you haven’t potty trained your child yet, the longer they stay in them the more they make.
“I’ve been potty training children for four decades and never is it longer than a week if you are CONSISTENT. In fact if you’re not it creates power struggles with your child.”
She urged parents to help their kids as soon as possible reach the milestone “for their sake” before offering her tip: “When you commit you must be all in, so invest in a little travel potty because you can’t change up when traveling in the car, it will delay the process.”
Her words were met with mixed responses in the comments section as the debate continued. While some praised her advice, others hit out. One user argued: “Forcing a child into doing something they’re just not ready yet can make things far worse. Every child is different and there are reusable nappies.”
And another hit out at her for apparent “mum-bashing”. “EVERY child is different,” they fumed. “Every parent parents differently. All cultures are different. Yes, there are milestones that are usually met by the average child by a certain age bracket, but there are many reasons for differences. I’m all for raising awareness but this is written rather condescendingly.”
Jo regularly posts on the platform and also recently hit out at how we are “disabling our children slowly” due to technological developments. She admitted that she knows parenting is tough, but said more needs to be done to realise some things don’t need fixed when it comes to development. She said: “Stop making it a competition…I’ve worked through most trends and fads twice I’ve been in this field so long and my advice is don’t get stuck on trends and fads stick with principles and strong values. Everyone can work with that.”
