Baileys is a popular festive tipple and is a must have for many, however a bottle of the stuff could set you back over £16.50 if it’s not on offer
Aldi has slashed the price of its Bailey dupe to below a fiver ahead of Christmas next week.
The discount supermarket chain has cut the price of its 70cl Ballycastle cream liqueur to just £4.49 a bottle. Baileys is a popular festive tipple and is a must have for many. However a bottle of the stuff could set you back over £16.50 if it’s not on offer.
Aldi’s dupe describes itself as an “elegant, Irish tipple” and promises a rich, chocolate and vanilla creaminess with “toffee undertones”. Ballycastle is a popular choice for many Brits who want to save a little over the festive season as you can save up to 73% compared to the pricier original – a whopping £12 compared to its original price.
This is the second price cut the supermarket chain has made on the drink in recent weeks. In November, Aldi cut the price of the bottle from £5.79 to £4.99. The extra 50p will most certainly tempt shoppers wanting to save some cash this Christmas. Although, those hoping to stock up will need to know that there is a limit to how many you can get at once. According to Aldi’s website, shoppers can only buy a maximum of 10 bottles each.
Like Baileys, Ballycastle can be served on its own, over ice or stirred into hot drinks such as hot chocolate. Many Brits have taken to social media to share their love of the dupe.
Describing the difference between Aldi dupes and their branded alternatives, one X user said: “The quality in 90% of the products is no different to their branded counterparts. If the people replying to me were to blind taste Baileys and Ballycastle amongst other cream liquors bet they’d fail to note the difference between the two.”
Another X user wrote: “Ballycastle is better than Baileys, mate, trust me.” A third added: “Go to Aldi’s Ballycastle is far cheaper and tastes the same as Baileys.”
However, those wanting the original this year can take advantage of the Christmas discounts offered by some major supermarket chains. Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s are currently selling a 70cl bottle of the liqueur for £10 as a Christmas offer. A litre bottle is also available for a tenner at Sainsbury’s, but you will need to have a Nectar Card to get it. Tesco and Asda are selling the litre bottle for £13.
