Tributes have been paid to ‘devoted’ Sheffield United fan and father-of-one Jordan Hattersley, 36, who was tragically hit by a car while walking to a game with his dad and siblings
A ‘devoted’ father-of-one has tragically died after being hit by a car on his way to watch a football game with his family.
Jordan Hattersley, 36, was walking with his dad and two younger siblings on his way to see Sheffield United play Sunderland at Bramall Lane on November 29 when he was hit by a red Lexus as he crossed the street.
The avid Blades fan, from Treeton, South Yorkshire, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, and sadly died in hospital earlier this month. Jordan and his wife Kirsty had been together for 13 years before tying the knot this June.
In a moving statement released through South Yorkshire Police, Kirsty explained that she had been with Jordan for the whole of her adult life. The two of them had a little boy, had bought and renovated a new home together, and had finally found the time to tie the knot when they were joined by 50 close friends and members of their family at their wedding ceremony in Cyprus in June. She said: “We thought we had time. We should have had time. We were at the height of our relationship, on cloud nine and just high on life and it’s all been ripped away in a split second.”
Kirsty explained that the couple’s six-year-old son, Freddie, will now need a great deal of additional support as Jordan took an active role in the care of his little boy. She added that Jordan was “an all-round good person” who would go out of his way to help others – and revealed that he had “given the gift of life this Christmas” by donating his organs upon his death.
His father, Richard Hattersley, said he was grateful to the other matchgoers who stopped to help and support the family at the scene. He said: “Jordan was devoted to Sheffield United. It was his main outlet after his family. He was following his passion, and at the matches he was an inspiration and role model to his brother and sister. We are all devastated by his loss.”
Jordan, who was born and raised in Sheffield before moving to Rotherham in his mid-teens, had held a season ticket at the top-of-the-table EFL Championship club from a young age. He worked as a computer engineer for Kerridge Commercial Systems in Tankersley, near Barnsley and had climbed his way up through the organisation after joining 18 years ago.
South Yorkshire Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision on Suffolk Road, at the junction with Granville Road in Sheffield at 7.25pm on November 29. Officers say they are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have relevant dash-cam footage which could help the investigation.
