Many Christmas markets have finished for the year, but there are a few that remain open until January
Christmas markets, a cherished tradition across Europe and the UK, transform ordinary streets into magical winter wonderlands.
With most people having completed their Christmas shopping and some even leaving town to spend the festive period with their families, many markets have already closed for the season.
However, a select few are keeping their doors open until January, allowing you to extend your festivities a bit longer with a glass of mulled wine or a cheese tasting, even after returning to work. These markets may also be less crowded post-Christmas.
So, without further ado, here are some UK Christmas markets that remain open until January.
Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park
Hyde Park’s popular Winter Wonderland is open until January 5, 2025, with plenty of tickets available in the days following Christmas.
First opened in 2007 as a small funfair on the outskirts of Hyde Park, it has since grown into one of the UK’s most popular festive attractions, drawing an estimated 2.5 million guests annually. From a Narnia-themed bar to ice skating and a Haunted Mansion ride, there’s plenty to do.
Winter Wonderland is an ideal choice whether you’re looking for fun with friends or a family day out.
Edinburgh Winterfest
Edinburgh’s Winterfest, another long-running festive market in the UK, opened on November 15 and will close on January 4.
The city’s East and West Princes Street Gardens, George Street, and St Andrew Square are all home to the market, which offers a variety of activities, including fairground rides, community events, and a frosty ice bar.
The Christmas market is open throughout Hogmanay, Edinburgh’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, which see the city burst into life with live music, street parties, and spectacular fireworks displays.
Glasgow Winterfest
Glasgow Winterfest, like its neighbouring city Edinburgh, keeps its Christmas Market open until January, with the last day set for January 5. This gives visitors extra days to savour the festive spirit with mulled wine, bratwurst and other Christmas favourites at St Enoch Square and George Square.
Coventry Christmas Market and Big Wheel
Coventry Christmas Market and Big Wheel, known for its impressive wheel, will also stay open until January 5. The popular wheel operates daily (except Christmas Day) from 10am to 10pm until the market’s final day.
Christmas at Chatsworth
Chatsworth House in Derbyshire is hosting its own Christmas Market, open until January 1. Alongside the market, guests can also enjoy a Christmas light trail, which stays open a few days longer than the market, closing on January 5.
Blenheim Christmas Market and Light Trail
Like Chatsworth, Blenheim Palace also hosts its own Christmas market. Closing on January 1, visitors can enjoy shopping alongside a light trail, an ice skating rink, and a Neverland-themed afternoon tea.
Bournemouth Christmas Market
For those who aren’t battling a New Year’s Day hangover, Bournemouth Christmas Market is open until 11pm on January 1. This means you can soak up the last remnants of festive cheer while taking in some sea air.
Christmas in Leicester
Meanwhile, in Leicester, although the Christmas Market wraps up on December 29, the Wheel of Light, ice rink, town hall illuminations and the Billy Bates Fun Fair all stay open until January 5, ensuring there’s still plenty of holiday fun to be had in the New Year.
