Police have issued a major update in the missing person case of Nicole Clare Ryan. The 46-year-old vanished in Gran Canaria two days ago, sparking a frantic search by the police
Police have released a major update after an Irish woman went missing in Gran Canaria.
Nicole Clare Ryan has now been found following a two day search on the Spanish island. The 46-year-old vanished in Puerto Rico on December 22. Her worried family alerted the police at the Civil Guard station in the town. She was last seen wearing a colourful sweater and black trousers.
The Civil Guard force earlier confirmed her dissapearance and said: “The Civil Guard has launched a coordinated operation to search for and locate a person reported as missing in the area of Puerto Rico.
“We were alerted to the 46-year-old woman’s disappearance on December 22 by relatives who reported her missing at the Civil Guard station in Puerto Rico. The coordinated search involves citizen security units based in the town of Vecindario in the south-east of the island working with other security and emergency forces.”
Police also released a poster which included a photo of her smiling, alongside the word “urgent”, which was written in capital letters. They earlier said: “Nicole disappeared on December 22 in Puerto Rico in the municipality of Mogan. She is 46 years old and 1.67m (5ft4ins) tall, slim, fair-skinned with brown hair and green eyes.
“The clothes she was wearing when she was last seen was a multi-coloured animal print sweater, pink trousers and black trainers.” Detectives urged people to come forward if they had any information. Following the sucessful appeal, they revealed progress in the case.
On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Clare has now been found safe and well. A source said: “This was being treated as a voluntary disappearance rather than a crime and the missing woman has been found. My understanding is she is safe and well.”
Police confirmed that she reunited with her relatives near a bus stop in Puerto Rico. They said the reunion occurred after she sent them an email following at least two days sleeping on the streets of the Gran Canaria capital Las Palmas.
It was not immediately clear if she messaged them after learning police had made an urgent appeal for information on her whereabouts. The Civil Guard said in a statement: “The missing 46-year-old woman was found this morning near a bus stop in Puerto Rico after contacting relatives via email.
“She was identified around 11am local time getting off a bus and meeting back up with her family. She was in good health, although she said she was tired after spending the last few days in the capital Las Palmas sleeping on the street.”
