Blake Lively had filed a lawsuit against co-stars Jenny Slate and Justin Baldoni, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign during the filming of It Ends With Us. Blake Lively has filed a lawsuit against co-star Justin Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a retaliatory smear campaign during the filming of It Ends With Us.
The lawsuit, initiated on December 20, 2024, accused Baldoni of misconduct on set and orchestrating efforts to damage Lively’s reputation. Baldoni denies the accusations against him. Following the filing of the lawsuit, Lively received support from her co-stars, including Jenny Slate. In the film adaptation of Coleen Hoover’s novel It Ends With Us, Slate portrays Allysa Kincaid, the younger sister of Ryle Kincaid, played by Baldoni.
In her statement to the Today show, Slate said: “As Blake Lively’s castmate and friend, I voice my support as she takes action against those reported to have planned and carried out an attack on her reputation.”
She added: “Blake is a leader, loyal friend and a trusted source of emotional support for me and so many who know and love her. What has been revealed about the attack on Blake is terribly dark, disturbing, and wholly threatening. I commend my friend, I admire her bravery, and I stand by her side.”
Lively also received backing from her co-star, Brandon Sklenar, who portrayed Atlas Corrigan, the first love and high school boyfriend of Lily Bloom, Lively’s character in the film.
Sklenar shared a link on his Instagram Story to a New York Times article about the legal complaint against Baldoni, 40. He wrote: “For the love of God, read this,” and tagged Lively. He added love heart emoji’s alongside her name. It Ends With Us was a box office smash hit which generated £240 million dollars worldwide, but off-screen the movie was plagued by rumours of on set tensions.
Eyebrows were first raised when fans noticed a curious lack of interaction between Lively and Baldoni, who did not pose together on red carpets despite playing a married couple in the film. An award that Baldoni recently received for “advocating on behalf of women and girls” was rescinded, in the midst of Lively’s sexual harassment lawsuit against him.
The actor was initially honored with the Voices of Solidarity Award on December 9 by Vital Voices Global Partnership, an international non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women leaders. On Monday, December 23, the organization released a statement on their website that they were taking back the award.
“The Voices of Solidarity Award honors remarkable men who have shown courage and compassion in advocating on behalf of women and girls. On Dec. 9, 2024, we recognized Justin Baldoni with this award. On Saturday, Dec. 21, we learned through news reports about a lawsuit brought by Blake Lively against Mr. Baldoni, his publicists, and others that is disturbing and alleges abhorrent conduct,” Vital Voices said.
“The communications among Mr. Baldoni and his publicists included in the lawsuit — and the PR effort they indicate — are, alone, contrary to the values of Vital Voices and the spirit of the Award. We have notified Mr. Baldoni that we have rescinded this award,” they added.
Justin’s lawyer, Bryan Freeman, has called the allegations against the star ‘false, outrageous and intentionally salacious’. In a statement, he said: “It is shameful that Ms. Lively and her representatives would make such serious and categorically false accusations against Mr. Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios and its representatives, as yet another desperate attempt to ‘fix’ her negative reputation which was garnered from her own remarks and actions during the campaign for the film; interviews and press activities that were observed publicly, in real time and unedited, which allowed for the internet to generate their own views and opinions.”
