Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has lifted the lid on his delicious turkey toastie recipe, which can be made from Christmas dinner leftovers – and it’s so simple to make
With Christmas Day having now past for another year, many Brits are looking for ways to use up all that extra turkey and Jamie Oliver has just the recipe for a tasty toastie.
When it comes to the holiday leftovers, it’s common to find turkey, ham, brussel sprouts, and cheese left in your kitchen on Boxing Day. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has shared his simple Christmas toastie recipe, which takes less than 15-minutes to whip up, but will keep you feeling stuffed like a turkey for hours. In a YouTube video, the professional cook said: “We’re going to have some fun with this and make it absolutely delicious.” Working alongside Tesco, he then shared his humble toastie technique, which makes two tasty sandwiches.
Ingredients
- Four slices of bread
- 70g leftover cooked meat, such as turkey, ham, stuffing, or nut roast
- 60g Cheddar – could also use Red Leicester, Brie, Camembert, Stilton
- 120g cooked Brussels sprouts and carrots (or other vegetables)
- 20g softened butter
- Leftover gravy
- One tbsp cranberry sauce
- One apple
- 40g of watercress
- Two tsp olive oil
- One tsp red wine vinegar
Method
- To start making this divine dish, finely chop up the vegetables and meat. Then grate the cheese on top of the chopped ingredients and combine together using your hands.
- Spread cranberry sauce on one side of the bread slices to establish a “sweet flavour” and cover with the toastie filling. Then place the other slice of bread on top.
- Jamie suggests lightly buttering the outside bread slices, to guarantee a golden, crispy finish. Place the sandwich in a large non-stick pan, over a medium heat, for around three-minutes on each side /- make sure to press down.
- In a separate pan, warm the leftover gravy, which will be used as a dip for the festive food. Grate more cheese on top of the toastie and cook until golden brown.
- Then start on the salad by cutting the apple into fine matchsticks and place in a bowl with the watercress. Drizzle over with olive oil and vinegar, add a pinch of salt and pepper and toss. Serve all together on a board, alongside the heated gravy, and enjoy!
