A hygiene expert and internet star known as ‘Madame Sweat’ has revealed that many of us are washing our armpits wrong – and it’s all down to the soap we’re using
A refreshing shower or bath can be the perfect start to your day or a peaceful end to your evening.
However, did you know there’s a body part you’re likely washing incorrectly without even realising it? If you’ve ever struggled to properly clean or freshen up your underarms, it’s probably because you’re not doing it right, according to one hygiene expert.
The popular internet personality ‘Madame Sweat’ revealed in a TikTok video that simply washing your underarms with some fruity soap isn’t enough – she even claims she can “guarantee you’ll still have yesterday’s deodorant on.”
She then demonstrated her advice over a video of a man washing his armpits, jokingly saying: “I’m here in the shower with Joey, and he’s lathering for 30 seconds. He’s doing it right. Plus he’s using an antibacterial soap.”
She emphasised that if you have “underarm hair” then you “definitely have got to get in there to get rid of yesterday’s deodorant.” Madame Sweat also shared the ingredients that a “good antibacterial soap” should contain, including apple cider vinegar, salt, and charcoal.
Charcoal cleansing soap can be purchased from Amazon for £4.99. In the comments, others shared their own shower cleaning routines. One wrote: “I have my ‘clean’ soaps and my ‘smelly’ soaps.”
Another added: “Yes, I use my formulated soap with activated charcoal and tea tree oil. It’s the best.” But someone countered the need for antibacterial soap, saying: “Actually you don’t need antibacterial soap. Regular soap works just as well”.
However, Madame Sweat countered: “Regular soap works great for other parts of the body, but to keep body odour at bay, it’s best to use antibacterial soap in the underarms, groin, and feet.”
