Kelyan Bokassa, 14, was stabbed to death on a bus in Woolwich, South East London, and as tributes pour in for the youngster, sick lyrics have also appeared on Instagram about the attack
Sick lyrics have been posted on Instagram reportly boasting about the stabbing to death of a 14-year-old on a London bus.
Kelyan Bokassa, who was an aspiring drill rapper who used the stage name Grippa, was knifed on a bus in Woolwich, South East London, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday and died despite the best efforts of paramedics. The Met Police have so far made no arrests and are appealing for information.
While Kelyan’s heartbroken mum Mary Bokassa went to the bus stop where flowers and tributes have been left, and many left comments in tribute to the teen online, there have been lyrics posted on social media bragging about the tragic death. The message on Instagram read: “Caught Grippa lackin’ on the 472 (bus). Blade in my coat, it’s do or die.
“He tried jumping off, but the door’s don’t slide, hah. Now he’s sittin’ there stiff with the fear in his eyes.”
Kelyan was stabbed in an area where gang warfare has become rife and there are fears that he may have become involved in county lines drugs running operations. Just an hour before he died he posted a haunting message on Instagram.
In the post, he asked if any of his followers had a “mindy” – street slang term for knife. He had released a track called ‘Bangers & Mash’ on Christmas Day with a video showing him pretending to wave a knife in the air while saying: “’I’m the shortest shooter on my block but I still roll with the longest ting’.
Kelyan made numerous references in the song to gangs and guns as well as saying “getting popped”. And Kelyan’s death came just three months after his 15-year-old pal Daejaun Campbell was killed with a blade nearby.
Kelyan grew up without his father and was taken into care four years ago. He ran away back to London twice. Documents show he was due in court last November on charges of possessing a machete in a public place on May 3 and he was also due to appear before Bromley magistrates.
Kelyan, who had previously been convicted of possessing a Stanley knife at a bike shed, also faced charges of stealing from a shop and failing to surrender to court bail. He had just enjoyed his first day back at Newhaven School in Eltham, a referral unit, after the Christmas break on Tuesday afternoon and was on his way to see social workers by bus when he was attacked.
Looking at the tributes left for her son, Mary told The Mirror how it’s “nice that so many people are saying positive things about my son.” But she also told how he had become a “lost” child. She said: “It makes me think about what’s going on in the world. And this is where he became an inspiring rapper because he had no other options.
“He was not given any other opportunities. He was using rap to express his anger. He was using this to cope with his anger. I understand he was angry because of what he went through. The care system just completely broke him. He was taken to care and when he came back from care, all his passion, what he loved the most, had been removed from him, from his identity. He was a child who was literally lost.”
