Think you’ve tasted every flavour of Pringle there is? Think again, as a brand new ‘mystery’ flavour has hit shelves at Sainsbury’s, and snack fans are eager to try them for themselves
Sainsbury’s shoppers are eager to get to the bottom of a new batch of “mystery” flavoured Pringles.
The beloved stackable snack is a firm favourite, with tubes of its original ready salted, sour cream and onion, and salt and vinegar flavours a regular feature at cinemas, party buffets, cosy nights in, and more.
The American brand, which was introduced in 1968, is known for its strong flavours and distinctive saddle shape, with new editions and limited flavour releases always going down well among Pringles devotees and casual shoppers alike.
Dedicated snack account New Foods UK caused a stir on Instagram after sharing footage of the brand’s new “mystery” flavour, which comes in a silver tube branded with the Super Mario logo and design but neglects to identify what they are supposed to taste like.
New Foods UK has cultivated a loyal fanbase on social media, boasting 369K followers on Instagram, thanks to its regular updates and reviews of all the newest sweet treats, snacks and more spotted in supermarkets and other retail stores up and down the country.
In a recent post, the food account shared a clip of the Pringles on the shelves at Sainsbury’s and then what the individual crisps look like out of the packaging, prompting many to guess what the flavours may be.
Captioning the clip, New Foods UK simply penned: “Brand new Mystery Pringles!! Tastes like Spicy Pizza in our opinion! Now available at @sainsburys”.
People were keen to share their thoughts in the comments section. One person said: “Ooh I hope it DOES taste like spicy pizza!!!”
Another mused: “Colour looks like it’s gonna be a chilli cheese” while somebody else said: “Makes sense to be pizza, Mario being Italian and all”.
One person said: “They should be mushroom flavour” – and they weren’t alone with this line of thinking. Many people agreed they should be mushroom flavoured, in reference to the mushrooms which appear in Mario video games.
Traditionally, a red mushroom will make small Mario grow into Super Mario, while ensuring being hit or damaged by an enemy will revert him to standard sized Mario without killing him.
Others simply tagged their friends to direct them to the post, with comments such as “we need these” and more. Another person thought they had the answer to figuring out the flavour, suggesting: “Just look at the ingredients?” But many other shoppers were keen to debunk this idea. Someone replied: “That doesn’t mean anything, if it just says “flavourings” then you’d have no clue. Same as a bottle of Coke, just basically “carbonated water, sugar, flavourings” – doesn’t give away what the flavour is”.
