Molly-Mae Hague has revealed the issues she had with ex-fiancé Tommy Fury’s drinking that contributed to their break up in her new TV documentary on Prime Video
Reality TV star Molly-Mae Hague has described the issues she was having with former fiancé Tommy Fury before the couple broke up in August last year.
The former Love Island star, who split from co-star Tommy in August after five years together, is a launching new documentary today. Prime Video series Molly-Mae: Behind It All takes fans behind-the-scenes of her break-up and the launch of her clothing brand Maebe, with the first three episodes now available on the streamer.
Speaking about her relationship with Tommy relationship in the documentary, the Love Island star chats to her mother about their split and says: “There were exterior issues that were going on for him that was causing our relationship to have problems.” When her mum Debbie questions her about what the issues were, Molly-Mae replies: “It’s just drinking, isn’t it.”
She also emotionally reveals one incident that remains in her memory. “At my sister’s wedding, I literally pleaded with Tommy, like I begged him to not drink, and it’s just, I don’t know, it’s just so sad. It affected me. That’s why my relationship with alcohol is really damaged. When you reflect on it, it’s really hard.”
Molly-Mae and Tommy met on Love Island in 2019, and split last year following rumours that he may have cheated. In the fly on the wall documentary series, which launches with three episodes, Molly-Mae talks in more detail about how she feels about drinking, and how it affected her relationship with Tommy.
“I never, ever wanted to be with someone that drank, because my mum had a period of time in her life where she struggled because her marriage of 25 years had just ended, and she turned to drink, probably more than she should have,” Molly-Mae says on the show. “And I was only about 14, 15 when that happened, and I saw my mum in some state, going through a really vulnerable time. So I have never, ever, ever been around it in a positive light.”
She goes on to explain that Tommy didn’t have an alcohol problem, but “alcohol caused problems for us”. She added: “It got to a point where I wasn’t really looking forward to anything, because alcohol affected it so much.”
She tells her mum on the show: “He wanted to have a family life, but then also have the life of a 25 year old boy with no responsibilities. And the two don’t go hand in hand.” Debbie agrees with her daughter, adding: “It’s heart-breaking. It’s heart-breaking how alcohol has really messed things up. It’s been so detrimental and destructive.”
In recent weeks, some Love Island fans have speculated that Tommy and Molly-Mae’s break up could actually be part of a clever PR stunt, as she has her series to promote and he has his autobiography, which was published at the end of last year. After spending her first Christmas alone in five years this festive season, on New Year’s Eve, a video surfaced of the pair seemingly sharing a passionate kiss as the clock struck midnight into 2025.
Following their New Year’s kiss, Tommy finally came clean on why they had split in the first place – a move that appeared suspicious ahead of Molly-Mae’s tell-all documentary. Addressing the reason why they broke up after almost six months of silence, Tommy told Men’s Health that the reason behind their break-up was because he had a “problem with alcohol”, echoing what Molly-Mae says in her documentary.
“I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore,” he told the magazine, adding: “Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing.”
The first three episodes of six part series Molly-Mae: Behind It All are on Prime Video from 17 January, with the final three episodes due in the spring.
