Liverpool have enjoyed a quiet transfer window so far but have been boosted in their quest for a new signing while the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Federico Chiesa have been decided
The January transfer window is past its halfway mark and Liverpool are yet to sign a player this month.
Arne Slot has seen Federico Chiesa added to his squad since this summer but has achieved some positive results. The Reds lead the Premier League and Champions League after quickly adjusting to the Dutchman’s methods.
Slot has been required to work under the cloud of Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk’s expiring contracts. The trio are now allowed to talk to other clubs, with less than six months remaining on their deals.
Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Anfield.
Trent Alexander-Arnold decision
Real Madrid and Trent Alexander-Arnold have come to an agreement it has been reported in Spain. The Liverpool star can make a pre-contract agreement with another club having entered the final six months of his deal at Anfield.
The Reds rejected approaches from Los Blancos to sign Alexander-Arnold this month, but the full-back is claimed to have made a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Spanish giants.
However, Real have not given up on securing a move this month for their target. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are short at right-back after Dani Carvajal suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
Transfer boost
Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez is said to favour a move to Liverpool as clubs line up for his signature.
Kerkez, 21, has impressed as the Cherries’ left-back this term under Andoni Iraola, as Liverpool prepare to find Andy Robertson’s long-term successor. Kerkez’s performances have ensured the Hungary international has some high-profile suitors.
Liverpool have been linked with the Bournemouth ace for a number of weeks and Manchester City and Manchester United are also reported to be admirers of the defender. The Reds appear to hold the advantage.
Kerkez’s representatives have already been contacted by Liverpool and both Manchester clubs. But the i report the player has indicated that Anfield would be his preference.
Bournemouth are unlikely to sanction the £50million-rated player to leave in the January transfer window. The presence of sporting director Richard Hughes, who signed Kerkez for Bournemouth, is said to have played a role in the youngster’s thinking.
Chiesa decison
The Reds are happy to keep Federico Chiesa at Anfield for the remainder of the season amid interest from Napoli, per reports in Italy.
The Serie A side are in the market for a new winger with star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia set to make his exit. Manchester United have already rejected a bid from Napoli for Alejandro Garnacho as Antonio Conte’s team look for a replacement.
Chiesa has faced difficulty breaking into Slot’s plans this term after suffering an early injury. The former Juventus man made an attacking and goalscoring contribution to Liverpool’s FA Cup third win last weekend, while his head coach has indicated more opportunities await.
