Seeing as it is the start of a brand new year, many people will be renovating or re-decorating their homes for a fresh change.
And if that’s you, then you may want to listen up as one interior design and DIY expert, who has been renovating her home for 10 years, has shared her top tips.
Katherine, known on Instagram as @edwardian_vignette, often shares her interior design and DIY advice with her 114,000 followers. She is known to focus on statement period decor and Edwardian DIY renovation and offers interior e-design services.
In one of her latest posts, Katherine, from Chester, shared the things she’s learned during her career.
Her first bit of renovation advice was to stay patient, as she wrote: “It takes time! Especially if you also have kids and day jobs. Get used to friends and family saying, ‘Is your house done yet?'”
She also told followers that they will spend a lot of money on “unexciting” things at first, like electrics, pluming and plastering, however she said these elements are “very necessary”.
It’s later on that Katherine said the “pretty, more exciting things” will come along, as she told fans it took her six years to get her ideal front door.
She also encouraged people to “have a go at things”, saying: “You might not feel confident at first, but there are loads of online resources that can help”.
Katherine also claims that you’ll find you had a “DIY outfit” when you start renovating where “every paint splodge tells a story”.
Her final bits of advice for renovating is to remember it’s a “long game filled with ups and downs”. She added: “You’ll have some years where you do loads, and others where reno takes a back seat. You’re doing great.”
Following up in her caption, the DIY expert said: “After 10 years, it might look like we’re old hands at this renovating lark. To be honest, we’re always learning and there’s still loads we want to do to this house.
“I’ve said it a few times, but renovating takes time. Seeing ‘quick’ transformations on here can make you feel like you’re failing, but everyone’s journey is different.”
Fans were loving the post, as one person told her: “Nice to hear it took a while. We’re almost a year in so on the boring bit stage but soon the walls are coming down…” While another added: “This is so good to know.”
