Four people including a woman in her 50s have been arrested after the body of a “gentle” dad was found in woodland
Kevin Coates, described by his family as someone who would “light up a room”, was found dead on Tuesday, January 14. He had last been seen alive a week before in Darwen, Lancashire. Police say further enquiries to discover how the 43-year-old died are needed following a postmortem examination which has already been carried out
Lancashire Police said four people were arrested in connection with “much-loved” man’s death. A woman, 56, and three men aged 37, 43 and 53 have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police said officers received a report Kevin was assaulted in his home before he went missing. Due to previous contact with Kevin, the force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
In a tribute issued by police, his family said: “Kevin was a much-loved brother, father, son and uncle who touched the hearts and souls of everyone he met. He would light up the room. He was a gentle person with a big heart and a lovely nature. As a family, we are absolutely heartbroken. Kevin – this is not a goodbye but a see you later.”
Detective chief inspector Sarah Denson said her thoughts were with Kevin’s family and appealed to the public for further information on the circumstances of Kevin’s death. She said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with Kevin’s loved ones at this time. We are looking into the circumstances around the assault and the events leading to Kevin’s death and I would appeal to anyone who has any information which could assist to get in touch.”
Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 101, quoting log 0916 of January 17. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
