Some huge characters have taken part in The Traitors since it landed on BBC One in 2022 – and there are few more memorable than the Irish charmer, Diane Carson
The Traitors is continuing to grip the nation, with BBC viewers desperate to find out if the faithful or the traitors will take home a life-changing cash prize during tonight’s nail-biting finale. The psychological competition show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, who has brought fingerless gloves back into fashion, is now coming to the end of its third series—but what happened to Diane Carson from the second season?
Fans of the show will recall that former teacher Diane, 63, was cast in series two alongside her son Ross Carson, and they didn’t tell anyone they were related. The Northern Irish star, known for saying ‘absolutely’ at any given time in the Scottish castle where the show is filmed, was selected a faithful before being murdered “in plain sight” by the traitors after she took a sip from a poisoned chalice.
While she or her son Ross didn’t make the series finale, bright and bubbly Diane has since gone on to appear on Celebrity MasterChef, announce a shocking career move, and go through a Good Morning Britain grilling that made awkward viewing. Here, we look back at some of Diane’s notable moments and explore what the national treasure is up to now…
Diane, from Bangor, opened up about an exciting career shake-up when she was invited onto Good Morning Britain last August. She told hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Madeley she was taking to the stage as a performer for the first time in the show Mothers Of The Brides, despite having no previous acting experience.
She shared: “You know, I’m of an age, it’s been offered so I’m going to have a go and see. I’m not worried, I’m not nervous. I don’t think anybody should be nervous because if you think about it, if you don’t know one person out there, so what?”
Richard then started to really grill Diane on her acting move, saying: “And what about learning lines?” To which Diane insisted: “Well, apparently, that won’t be a problem.”
He continued: “It’s a complete, complete 90 degree turn in your life,’ to which Diane clapped back: “I know but honestly, I will keep saying it – we all just live once.”
Less than a month later, Diane’s season of Celebrity MasterChef dropped on screens. The television personality admitted she rediscovered her love of cooking because of the experience on the show.
Diane, who didn’t win the competition despite her best efforts, revealed her children persuaded her to take part in the series. She said: “It was mostly through persuasion, my kids thought it’d be great.
“They love watching Celebrity MasterChef. They thought it’d be fun, and I suppose, a bit of a challenge to see if I could get a kick start into entertaining again! For years, I’ve always had family and friends around and I’ve loved entertaining.”
It looks like Diane has no plans to step out of the spotlight anytime soon, with the rosé-loving star recently confirming she’s launching a podcast with drag queen Beary Poppins named Spill The Fizz.
She made the announcement at RuPaul’s Drag Con earlier this month and told Heatworld: “I met Beary Poppins when he was assigned to interview me on Zoom for Heat, and we got on like a house on fire. We had such a laugh at another face-to-face interview that we kept in contact.”
For their show, they share insight into their day-to-day lives and tell hilarious anecdotes. The duo also interviewed some very special celebrity guests for their hour-long episodes.
We’re only a month into 2025, and we can’t wait to see what else Diane has lined up for it.
