Manchester United are expected to make progress this weekend as they look to bring in a new signing before the transfer window shuts while Marcus Rashford endures a difficult time
Little over a week remains of the transfer window and time is running out for Manchester United to conduct business.
The club undertook significant spending in the summer and still find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League and with a new head coach. Ruben Amorim has not been unable to mould United’s squad with his own players yet, and time is running out to bring some in.
The Red Devils could see bodies arrive and depart before the window is short. Marcus Rashford’s future increasingly looks like he could remain in the North West as the days pass by, while United look to tie down a deal for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.
Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford.
New Bid
United have planned out their second bid for Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu, per reports.
The Red Devils have already seen one proposal turned down by the Serie A side. United are expected to return with an offer above their initial €27million but still short of Dorgu’s €40m valuation.
For his part, the 20-year-old appears keen to make the move Old Trafford. The Danish full-back has also drawn interest from Napoli in recent days, who would allow Dorgu to remain on loan with Lecce until the summer.
Meeting scheduled
There’s no shortage of news emerge on United’s quest to bring Dorgu to Manchester. After representativees met with Lecce president Sticchi Damiani already, a second meeting is scheduled for the weekend.
Damiani is reported to have have said intial talks went well and that he was ‘proud’ to have drawn interest frm a club of United’s stature. The Lecce chief suggested he would like to keep Dorgu until the end of the season however.
Calciomercato, per Sport Witness, reported on Thursday that another meeting would occur in three days. With Ruben Amorim’s keen to see a deal this month, it would appear Damiana may not be locked in to retaining Dorgu’s services for the remainder of the season.
Marcus Rashford latest
As the days tick by it’s looking a more and more difficult task for Marcus Rashford to earn a move away this month. Reports now suggest the 27-year-old has accepted he will remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the season after negotiations over a move to Borussia Dortmund stalled.
The financial burden of doing such a deal has left the Bundesliga side ‘not hopeful’ of securing Rashford this month, per Sky Sports Germany. Dortmund will wait to see if United are willing to cover the majority of Rashford’s salary as the window nears its close however.
AC Milan’s chances of signing Rashford have ended after signing Kyle Walker on loan from Manchester City. The Italian giants are unable to register a temporary move for another non-EU player from the Premier League.
The official programme cover for Manchester United v Rangers has been revealed, and it is paying tribute to ‘The King’, Denis Law. As well as the cover, there will be special features inside dedicated to the Manchester United and Scotland legend. Copies will be available at Old Trafford on matchday or online .
