Kanye West has revealed the role his wife, Bianca Censori, played in getting his autism diagnosis confirmed after previously being misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder
Kanye West has opened up about his autism diagnosis, revealing his wife was behind his decision to get checked.
The rapper, 47, explained how Bianca Censori, 30, told him she didn’t believe his initial diagnosis of bipolar disorder was indeed correct. He got candid during a recent interview with media personality Justin Laboy, which was filmed and shared on YouTube.
During their conversation, Kanye explained how he had wrongly been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He said he only realised thanks to his wife Bianca, who he said had been observing his behaviour. The rapper, now legally known as Ye, revealed she prompted him to get a second opinion on his mental health.
“I went to this doctor – one who worked with Justin Bieber – my wife took me to do that because she said ‘something about your personality doesn’t seem like its Bipolar,'” Kanye told Justin during their chat. He went on to say his wife told him she had seen bipolar before and wasn’t under the impression that his mental health diagnosis was correct because he didn’t exhibit traits of the condition. “Come to find out its really a case of autism that I have,” the musician added.
He went on to give an example of how his autism affected his behaviour as he made reference to the 1988 hit movie Rain Main starring Tom Cruise, who’s character learns his brother has autism. He said: “Autism takes you to a Rain Man thing where you’re like ‘oh I’m gonna wear this Trump hat cause I just like Trump in general’ and then when people tell you to not do it you just get on that one point and that’s my problem…,” Kanye explained.
He also opened up about how his struggles can affect his family too. “It’s so difficult for them because this is like a grown man [referring to himself]…You can’t take control of [my] bank account. You can’t control what I’m saying on Twitter,” Kanye said. The interview dropped shortly after Kanye and Bianca stunned the world on the Grammy Awards red carpet. The internet was set ablaze when the Australian her appearance, especially as she unrobed from her furry coat and showed off a see-through mesh dress that left little to the imagination.
It’s thought Kanye, who sported an all-black ensemble, may have been the architect behind the daring display, according to a lip reader. Nicola Hickling interpreted Kanye’s words to his wife at the event. She claimed Ye said: “You’re making a scene now,” which Bianca acknowledged with a nod.
