Summer is just around the corner, and with the UK’s weather being notoriously unpredictable, jetting off on holiday is the best way to ensure some sunshine.
Thailand, with its stunning beaches, warm climate, and relaxed lifestyle, is a dream destination for many.
However, the prospect of a long-haul flight isn’t appealing to everyone – luckily, there are plenty of beautiful European destinations much closer to home.
One region in Italy, in particular, is said to offer ‘Thai island vibes’ but is only a couple of hours away from the UK.

Even better, flights to this destination can be as cheap as £21 – so if you’re in need of some holiday inspiration, Sardinia could be your answer, reports the Express.
Travel experts at SkyParkSecure have identified alternative destinations to far-flung holiday spots, and they recommend Sardinia for those seeking Thai island vibes without the lengthy flight.
Flights to Cagliari airport start from as low as £21 one way in March from Stansted Airport, making it an affordable choice even if you have to travel to London to catch your flight.
What’s more, the flight time is just over two and a half hours, making it perfect for a long weekend or a midweek break if you don’t want to venture too far.
The stunning beaches of Sardinia, with their turquoise waters and hidden coves, could easily give Thailand’s renowned islands a run for their money. Offering a European twist on paradise, Sardinia is known for its relaxed vibe and delicious cuisine.
Cala Goloritze, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the island’s most celebrated spots. Its crystal-clear waters are often hailed as the most picturesque in all of Sardinia.
You can either trek to it or opt for a boat trip, which also provides a fantastic opportunity for island-hopping and swimming in the cool turquoise waters.
Another must-visit location is the uninhabited Asinara island, dubbed ‘Italy’s Alcatraz’ due to its history as a detention centre for prisoners.
However, since 1997, it has been recognised for a different reason. It’s now a national park where visitors can hike, cycle and spot unique wildlife, including albino donkeys that freely roam the island.
After a day filled with hiking, snorkelling, caving or simply exploring the region, you’ll undoubtedly have worked up an appetite. And you’re in luck.
Sardinian cuisine is unparalleled, particularly if you’re a seafood lover. The coastal region’s dishes are incredibly fresh and delicious, best enjoyed in a pasta dish – try it with some fregola, a classic Sardinian pasta shape.
Culurgiones, a type of Sardinian ravioli-like stuffed pasta, is another must-try delicacy, ideally topped with Pecorino cheese from the same region.
And for those with a sweet tooth, seada – a savoury bread best served with sweet toppings like honey and sugar – is a dessert not to be missed.
