One Direction star Liam Payne will be remembered in a moving and worthy tribute to his memory at the BRIT Awards, as One Direction make a decision about a potential reunion
Liam Payne will be honoured with a moving tribute at the BRIT Awards in March.
The One Direction star tragically died aged 31, on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires. However, according to a source, the rest of the band were asked to reunite for a special tribute to their late bandmate but reportedly turned it down for an important reason.
It is believed event organisers had approached the group, who won seven BRIT Awards during their career, about performing live at the ceremony on March 1. However, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik have chosen not to participate.
Speaking to The Sun an insider revealed that Harry, Niall, Louis, and Zayn felt a reunion could overshadow the tribute to Liam, making it unlikely that any of them will attend the event.
Fans were left devastated in October when news that Liam had suddenly passed away at the age of 31 after a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. His cause of death was confirmed as ‘polytrauma,’ indicating multiple severe injuries to his body.
Although Liam’s passing brought the former bandmates back into contact for the first time since Zayn’s departure in 2015, there are no current plans for any future One Direction projects.
A source explained: “This has been an incredibly emotional time for the group, and they decided that a performance would be too overwhelming. They have mourned privately and don’t feel the need for a public tribute just for the sake of it. While fans may be disappointed, the timing simply isn’t right.”
The insider also noted that logistical factors played a role, as Zayn is now based in the U.S., and each member is at a different stage in their life and career. “A One Direction reunion is not on the horizon at all,” the source added.
Meanwhile, BRIT Awards host Jack Whitehall is expected to acknowledge Liam’s passing during the ceremony, with a tribute forming a significant part of the event. While Liam’s family is being kept informed of the plans, they are not directly involved in the tribute arrangements.
The BRITS won’t be the first award show tribute to Liam. Earlier this month fans were left in tears when the Grammy’s showed a heartbreaking video montage of the star.
Featuring clips of musician during his days in boyband One Direction. The footage opened up with Liam standing alongside his bandmates on a rooftop as they overlooked a screaming crowd of fans below. “I never expected any of this to happen,” he said in a featured old audio clip. “You actually sit and think about it – we’ve done some amazing things.”
Alongside music from Chris Martin, Liam was seen posing in front of a graffiti wall and performing onstage during One Direction’s stadium tours. One fan on X, formerly known as Twitter: “I don’t want tributes, I want Liam back. He never deserved this at such a young age.”
