Candice Kloss, the Mensa member who went viral after asking first dates to fill in an IQ test, has now ditched the method as it “stopped” her from “finding true love”
A model who went viral for asking men to take an IQ test on their first date says the method has prevented her finding true love.
Candice Kloss, a Mensa member with an IQ of 136, says she regrets the decision to test her dates as it has “stopped” her from “finding true love”. The 24-year-old sparked backlash at the time, but defended her decision as she wanted her other half to have the same brain power as her, but it has not worked in her favour.
Three years on from announcing the date test, Candice is “ditching” the intelligence tests and has since shared her thoughts on the “totally unreasonable” first date request.
She said: “I think it was totally unreasonable for me to ask this of my dates and I really regret it now. Since stopping the test, I’ve already met such a wide variety of people, and I’m no longer so close-minded about romantic possibilities.
“I feel less pressure and dating has actually become more enjoyable now. I’ve come to realise that sometimes people might not know much about business or politics but they know loads about another topic. It’s been really surprising.”
Candice, from New York, says she stopped doing the tests also because carrying the tests became a difficulty. She says she was “getting tired of carrying the heavy test papers around”, and is “still searching” for the right person.
Candice added: “I’m still searching but I think part of the reason I haven’t met the right person yet is because I can be a bit high-maintenance.
“A lot of the dates I’ve been on aren’t aware of my IQ until a little bit later on and this has helped with people not being deterred by my brain. In the past, it has hindered my chances of finding love.
“For instance, I have corrected a few dates before, such as if they pronounced a word wrong, and they didn’t seem too pleased. I’m not trying to be a know-it-all, it’s more in a bid to help them, but it only makes things awkward. Men like to feel confident and as if they have the upper hand.”
The OnlyFans model, who makes £47,000 a month from the site, is also hoping to complete a trip to all 50 states in the United States by the end of the year. She says her travelling has made her realise she could be the “dumbest” person in other areas of the world.
She said: “All my friends are way older, as I don’t really have anything in common with people my age. I don’t understand pop culture references or the jokes they make, and I don’t really have time to watch viral videos.
“My best friend is in her 40s. I also read a lot about things like marketing, biochemistry, real estate and finance – both for pleasure and to sharpen up my knowledge.”
Candice says she is spending Valentine’s Day alone, unless she can find someone “rich and well-travelled” before February 14. She added: “I have no current plans and will probably buy chocolates for myself.
“Who knows, though? If I can find a guy who’s nerdy, has a sense of humour, is rich and well-travelled, then I might have a chance. For me, mutual respect and honesty are the priority over intelligence now. I think it’s important to give everyone a chance, as it’s the only way to find happiness.”
