Clarks Torhill boots have seen a huge are set to be one of the trending footwear styles of the season, so I put them to the test to see how easy they are to style
If there’s one footwear style we didn’t see coming as the trendiest shoes of the season, it’s the Clarks Torhills. The chunky platform boots have been steadily increasing in searches since the start of the year according to Google trends, and they’re already marked as one of the best selling styles on the Clarks website.
My usual everyday footwear is a pair of trainers or some chunky boots, but I’ve been looking for something that manages to effortlessly toe the line (excuse the pun) between cool and smart – and I think these Clarks Torhill boots may be just the thing. Available for £110, the suede platform boots are stylish, modern and timeless, all whilst having a cooler vibe than a standard pair of boots or loafers.
But as they’re such a different design to my usual style, I wasn’t sure quite how easy they’d be to style. So, I put them to the test to find out whether these newly-trending shoes would become a staple in my wardrobe, and just how easy they are to get plenty of wear out of.

How do they look?
As my usual uniform includes denim, it was only right to try them out with some of my favourite pairs of jeans. Although I love a straight cut, the millennial in me is also thrilled that skinny jeans are making a comeback, so they were first to be put to the test.
The Clarks Torhill boots are just the right length to be worn with all different leg lengths. With my skinny jeans hitting just an inch or so above the top of the boots, there was no awkward bunching or tucking in.
When I tried them with my wider, and shorter, leg jeans, they showed plenty of ankle, which meant I could wear them with a fun pair of socks for an added cool factor. The broader leg also created a good contrast with the slim fit around the ankle of the Clarks Torhills, whilst the broader square toes meant they didn’t look too dainty or small peeking out of the bottom of my jeans.
I also put the Torhill boots to the test with a shorter hemline, pairing them with one of my go-to oversized denim dresses. They gave a nice balance to the oversized fit of the dress, making my legs look slimmer and adding a solid, grounded look at the bottom that I usually only get from a pair of chunky boots.
How do they feel?
The Clarks Torhills are hands down some of the comfiest shows I’ve ever tried on. They have a contoured cushioned footbed that can be removed if you prefer, but it provides just the right amount of support and impact cushioning, making them a winner for wearing all day.
They’re also made from 100% real suede, and despite its platform style, the sole is flexible and easy to walk in – something that can be a struggle with other flatform styles. The grippy soles are also perfect for the winter weather, as I never felt like I was slipping and sliding when wearing them.
Their design may not be for everyone, but I can wholeheartedly say these have found a permanent place in my wardrobe. They’re comfy, easy to style, and manage to look smart enough to wear into an office whilst still being cool enough to wear to the pub – definitely a winner.
You can pick them up in both black and tan in sizes 3 to 8, with half sizes available throughout. I took my usual size, and they fit perfectly – no rubbing, gaping or pinching.
Similar styles are also available at Hush Puppies, with the Brianna Black Womens Ankle Boots available for £80.99, whilst the men’s section of Pull & Bear has the Lace-Up Leather Ankle Boots on sale for £15.99, down from £49.99.
