Luke Littler is the reigning darts world champion having claimed the title at Alexandra Palace last month and the iconic Phil Taylor has given him some priceless advice over how to handle his money
Phil Taylor has given Luke Littler some priceless financial advice as his wallet continues to swell. alongside his trophy cabinet.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a stunning year having won over £1million in prize money over the past 12 months. Littler claimed the Premier League last year and also won his first-ever world title in January, a title that was worth £500,000 to him.
And one man who knows how to handle his cash is the legendary Taylor. The Power won 16 world championships across what was a glittering career with an estimated £8.5 million earnings throughout his time in darts.
And he has now given Littler some valuable advice and told him to open up two bank accounts to keep an eye on his finances. Speaking to Sport Bible, he said: “Straight away – keep off social media. Don’t bother with it. Let somebody else do it for you. You don’t need to read things because it can upset.
“Make sure you look after your money. Two bank accounts – one in one, and half in another. So that’s your tax. That’s what I always used to do.
“Try to start investing your money, so if anything happens, if you fall down and break your arm or something, you’ve got something to fall back on.”
Funnily enough, Littler has already given a few clues about what he intends to spend his money on. Speaking after winning both the Players Championship 20 title and World Series of Darts in Amsterdam, he revealed that he had bought himself a “nice bag”.
But after his world title success, it appears that Littler had his eyes on another glitzy purchase. “I’ve always loved a Mercedes A-Class – just a small car,” Littler explained. “Last year, I was looking at driving, and I loved the Ford Focus, but now I’ve gone up in the world just a little!

“I haven’t had driving lessons yet because it’s been so hectic, but I’m going to have to do it before I get into my twenties when it’ll be too late and I can’t be bothered. If I get a car, it won’t be a birthday present from anyone. I think it would have to be a birthday present from me to me.”
Littler will be aiming to add to his prize fund as he attempts to retain his Premier League title. He fell to Michael van Gerwen on the opening night last week despite a stunning average of 113.91.
He takes on Rob Cross in the quarter-finals in Glasgow on Thursday evening. Littler’s match will be the first of the night, with van Gerwen entertaining Stephen Bunting, Nathan Aspinall then playing against Gerwyn Price, with Luke Humphires and Chris Dobey rounding off the quarter-finals.
