After retirement, former Stoke City and Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has continued to entertain his fans with funny stories and humorous takes through podcasts and as a pundit on TNT Sports
At six feet and seven inches, the forward with a slender physique was a towering figure in the box during his playing days. With stints at clubs such as Liverpool, Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur, combined with a lively personality, Peter Crouch was a popular figure in his teams.
Due to his height, he was exceptional in the air and was known to be a prolific header of the ball. Often a goal was followed by his iconic “robot” dance celebration. But, most importantly, he could do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke – with whom he scored 46 goals in over 225 appearances from 2011 to 2019.
Since retiring, he has continued to maintain a presence in the media – be it from covering live games and sharing old stories to talking about mental health with his guests on That Peter Crouch Podcast. In 2020 during the COVID lockdown, his BBC podcast featured an appearance from Prince William who discussed the importance of being mentally fit.
On his podcast, Crouch admitted that he struggled in a “male-dominated” space where “any weakness shown is an excuse not to make it” and added: “When I started talking about it and opened up, I did feel much better.” He also revealed his insecurity about being tall and standing out in the crowd: “I had these hand-ups and I always used to cry. I used to cry at night when I was a kid of 14 or 15, saying ‘dad, why am I not the same as everyone else?’ “
Peter Crouch’s net worth
While Crouch’s real net worth as of 2025 is unclear, Celebrity Net Worth estimates it to be around £28 million. The forward’s senior career saw him represent over 12 clubs across England, including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in top-tier football.
Since retiring from professional football in July 2019, Crouch has been involved in various business activities. Some of them include hosting a podcast, partnering with brands for endorsements, and also appearing as a pundit on television.
Apart from his splendid career on the field, Crouch gradually became known for his quick wit and humorous personality, particularly towards the end of his time as a footballer. Building off this, he partnered with popular gambling brand, Paddy Power, who had by then marketed themselves through funny social media advertisements.
He also began to host the “That Peter Crouch Podcast” on YouTube in early 2022 with Chris Stark, who was then a co-host on BBC Radio 1. As an ex-footballer with interesting stories from his playing days and hilarious takes on various events in the sporting world, he was able to garner over 130,000 subscribers on the video platform.
The show continues to bring in regular brand sponsorships but has also extended to live events. He has also been part of promotional campaigns for horse racing including at Cheltenham and Grand National race meets.
As mentioned, he had started with TV gigs in his latter years at Stoke City and Burnley, featuring on UK stations such as BBC and Amazon Prime. He currently works for TNT Sports group, who also own BT Sport.
Peter Crouch’s celeb wife
Crouch’s wife, Abbey Clancy, is a celebrity herself having finished runner-up on Britain’s Next Top Model in 2006, a show which she later went on to host from 2015 until 2017. They were engaged in 2009 and finally married in June 2011 – they have two daughters (Sophia Ruby and Liberty Rose) along with two sons (Johnny and Jack).
The couple first met at a bar in Liverpool in 2006. During a chat on Amazon Prime with his wife, Crouch said: “You came on to me which was bizarre but obviously pretty ground-breaking for me. You know someone as beautiful as Abby coming up and chatting to me – I was like this doesn’t happen down south. She was just beautiful and funny.”
Interestingly, Crouch revealed that it was earlier on the same day that he had scored his first goal for the Merseyside club. Abby recalled congratulating him, saying: “I remember he scored that day and I just said ‘well done for scoring’ or something ridiculous and then we just got chatting.”
The ex-footballer jokingly insisted to Abby that “you were all over me” that night – to which he dismissively said: “I was just saying a flipping comment. I didn’t stop for a chat.” Later in the bar, after she had given his number to him, Abby caught Crouch talking to another girl and became furious.
Crouch’s now-wife recounted: “I was like ‘You just asked me for my number?’’ and reacting to the past event, the player said: “What are you talking about? We had just met – I should’ve known she was a lunatic!”
Crouch has previously revealed that his wife was not a big football fan, saying: “My wife doesn’t like football. One day she called me 10 minutes before kickoff to ask where I was.”
