A TikTok creator named Elise Brulotte has gone viral after sharing her ‘life-changing’ poached egg hack that takes just two minutes – but people are divided over the unusual cooking method
A TikTok creator’s ‘life changing’ cooking hack for whipping up poached eggs in under two minutes has taken the internet by storm, and it doesn’t even require a stove.
Knowing what to cook when you’re hungry can be a difficult decision to make, especially if you’re in a time crunch. While eggs are known for being good for you, they might sometimes take too long to cook.
But one TikTok creator and food enthusiast Elise Brulotte, who has amassed an impressive following of 469,000 fans, has shared videos to show her favourite quick recipes and kitchen life hacks to make life easier and less stressful.
In a recent clip, Elise reveals her top pick for quick eats when in a rush, demonstrating how to conjure up a portion poached eggs in a flash – and all you need is a mug and a microwave.
“The random lifehack that I learned and never stopped doing is microwaved poached eggs. I am always in a rush, I never have to do anything. And this hack literally saved me,” she confessed at the beginning of her tutorial.
With a mug on the countertop, she proceeded to guide viewers through the steps to recreate her dish, requiring nothing more than a microwave.
“So you just microwave a quarter cup of water for a minute and then crack an egg in there directly from the fridge,” she told viewers while cracking an egg into the mug.
She further told people to gently pierce the egg yolk with something shar, such as a toothpick, making sure not to break it apart.
“And then you’re gonna cover it and microwave it for another 30 seconds,” she instructed, before cutting the video to after her egg was done and she’d taken it out of the microwave.
“And then you’re just gonna dump it onto a paper towel, and look how cute she is,” she admired her poached egg before slicing it open to reveal the perfectly runny yolk. “I’m gonna eat this with some sourdough toast, but it’s cooking, but look at that.”
“It’s actually perfect, it took two minutes,” she declared.
However, people were quick to question Elise about her unconventional cooking method in the comments. One person queried why she poked the yolk before cooking it, to which another user responded: “So it doesn’t explode.”
Another individual questioned the need for the hack at all, arguing: “Poached eggs the normal way take no time at all what u talking about!
“Worked fine until it didn’t. Don’t do it unless you want to spend an hour cleaning exploded egg from the microwave,” a third person warned.
