Rihanna’s rumoured Glastonbury appearance and other scheduled performances from major pop stars has left music fans believing that this year will be the year of great concerts
2025 has been kicking off to a great start for pop music fans, as rumours have started to fly that Bajan popstar Rihanna might be headlining this year’s Glastonbury festival.
According to the Telegraph, the singer is planning a major residency at London’s Olympic Stadium around the same time as the festival, while sources have suggested that she’s lining up a string of six shows from July 8, shortly after the Glastonbury finale on June 29.
The singer first sent fans into a frenzy with a rare interview published last weekend, when she told Harper’s Bazaar she has been back in the studio – and that her new stuff is ‘not going to be anything that anybody expects’.
Amidst the extreme excitement, it’s led to a wider discussion about 2025 being the ‘year of concerts’. One TikTok user @raveenaluvstolol pointed out the sheer amount of big stars set to perform over the next few months. “all within the span of like 4 months too is insane” reads the caption.
In the video, she pointed out SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s hotly anticipated Grand National Tour, which will be performed in Tottenham on the 22nd and 23rd of July. The Weeknd’s After Hours Lit Dawn tour kicks off in May, while Tate McRae will be performing in the UK across May and June.
Beyond that, there has been a massive buzz around the concert scene. Just recently, Pitbull caused a storm online with his February tour. So far, across Dublin, London and Paris concert goers have gone viral for dressing up in bald caps emulating Mr Worldwide’s distinctive look.
Other famous rap acts include Usher, who is set to play the O2 on the second of April as part of his Past, Present and Future tour. Sabrina Carpenter is bringing her Short n’ Sweet Tour to London on 8th and 9th of March, while Tyler the Creator is set to play several dates in May.
Pop megastars Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish have set UK performance dates over the summer. Rock fans are also in for a treat, as Imagine Dragons and Coldplay have dates lined up in August and September.
Although, despite the extreme hype, the volume of concerts has sparked complaints from fans over the cost. One X user wrote: “I think 2025 gonna be my last year of regularly attending concerts. I can’t justify some of this money being spent and I’ve pretty much already seen everybody I want to see now.” In another comment, they added, “It’s a bit too much now man, I said £110 for SZA was my limit but it keeps getting higher”
