Advanced weather maps from WXCharts shows the storm hovering over the United Kingdom in days – with all but one region battling snow, torrential rain, or a combination of the two
The UK is set to be pummeled by more snow and torrential rain this week, with flurries expected country-wide – except for in one area.
Weather maps from WXCharts shows the storm hovering over the British Isles on Thrusday, March 13 – with all but one region battling snow, torrential rain, or a combination of the two. Their data suggests snow could be falling at a rate of around one centimetre per hour across the Yorkshire Dales from midnight – with lighter flurries covering the Scottish Highlands and the Cairngorms between Iverness and Edinburgh.
The only place in the country not to be affected by rain or snow appears to be the northeast coast.
According to the weather forecast service, which uses Met Desk data, rain is also expected in Wales, including in Cardiff and Gwynedd, across the southeast, including in London and all of Kent, and parts of Manchester during the early hours.
It is predicted to ease across much of the country as the day progresses, but snow will continue to fall across the North West, Scotland and some parts of Wales, WXCharts predicts. Manchester, Edinburgh and Gwynedd in North Wales may see lighter snow by 6am, as well Iverness, Wick and the Scottish Highlands.
Flurries will be most intense in the Craignorms during this time, falling at a rate of around 1cm per hour, before snow eases across the country.
It comes after the Met Office warned that the middle of March is likely to bring spells of rain, with rainfall amounts “probably above average”. The agency said in its long-range forecast from Friday, March 14 until Friday, March 28: “The middle of March is most-likely going to be quite changeable and unsettled with spells of rain and strong winds in most areas.
“Especially the north and west, with rainfall amounts probably above average. Some drier interludes are also likely between time though, especially in the south and east, and temperatures on the whole will be a little above average.
“Later in the month, there are signs that high pressure to the south could start to dominate once again, with extended dry and bright conditions perhaps developing more widely.”
