A man has been charged with murder following a devastating house fire that killed four people including three children.
Sharaz Ali, 39, was charged with four counts of murder following a house fire that killed Bryonie Gawith, 29, and her children Denisty Birtle, nine, Oscar Birtle, five, and 22-month-old Aubree Birtle, in Bradford, on August 21 last year, West Yorkshire Police said.
In a news release, West Yorkshire Police said: “Detectives investigating a house fire in Bradford in which a mother and her three children died have charged a third man with murder. Sharaz Ali, 39 of Langbar Avenue, Bradford has been charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempt murder.
“He’s been summonsed to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court this morning (Monday 3 March). The charges relate to the fatal house fire on Westbury Road on 21 August 2024. “
Initial reports from around the time of the fire suggested Mr Ali was expected not to survive. But in February a court heard he had made a “marked improvement” and is now “expected to survive”.
