Aston Villa told to be ‘wary’ of signing Marcus Rashford as damning Man Utd message sent

By staff4 March 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a bright start to life with Aston Villa after joining on loan until the end of the season and both clubs have been sent an interesting message

Aston Villa have been told to think carefully about signing Marcus Rashford permanently despite being told he can be the “best player in the Premier League ”.

The England forward joined Villa on loan in January after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. And Rashford has since enjoyed a bright start to life in the Midlands.

The 27-year-old has yet to open his Villa goalscoring account but already has three assists to his name. Rashford is reportedly already open to making his move to Villa a permanent one.

And while former Villa star Richard Dunne has offered United a damning message given the fact they let one of the Premier League’s best go, he believes Villa need to seriously think about whether they want to sign him permanently.

Speaking to William Hill, Dunne said: “There has never been any question over Marcus Rashford’s ability and quality when he’s on form but I think Aston Villa still have to be wary and wait and see before committing to signing him permanently.

“He needs to perform week-in, week-out because for far too long, he’s not performed consistently or at the level that’s been expected. Villa need to be certain that he has turned a corner and found the club that suits him.

“If they’re seeing a determination from Marcus, that he wants to be the best player in the league – which he has the capability of being – then he can be a real game-changer for Villa and someone who can take them to the next level.

“His potential and ability is unlimited. He can win games on his own. If they can get him firing then it’s an amazing signing for them.”

Rashford has already struck up an excellent partnership with another of Villa’s January signings – Marco Asensio. All three of his assists have come by teeing up the Spaniard and Unai Emery expects that electric partnership to continue in the Champions League.

“We added players with experience in Europe and in this competition. Usually, they are players playing in the highest level who can help us a lot,” Emery said ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Club Brugge.

“The process they are doing, progressively adapting to us, is going well. We are not going to get our objective only through individual players.

“We are going to get it collectively, building our structure as strong as possible. Once we have our structure, individual players can exploit their skills. This is the challenge we have.”
