Fitness expert Laura Williams has revealed the best exercises to do in each decade of your life to help you become more active in a way that suits your age and lifestyle
Adults spend an average of six hours a day sitting or lying down, according to a recent report, with only 28% engaging in low levels of physical activity.
It was reported that most Brits struggle to make time for exercise with a lack of motivation and poor weather among other reasons for limited activity. Yet, 37% reported feeling lethargic and 29% felt less flexibility as a consequences of skipping workouts.
This sedentary lifestyle has sparked concerns, with 36% of adults frequently worrying about the impact it could have on their long-term health and wellbeing.
To combat this trend, fitness expert Laura Williams has teamed up with Vitabiotics Jointace to encourage people to incorporate appropriate fitness routines at every stage of life. Williams stresses the importance of tailoring your fitness habits to your age, ensuring your body stays strong and healthy over time.
For young adults under 30, Williams emphasises the need to establish regular exercise habits early. For those in their 40s, the focus should shift to bone strength and pelvic floor health, while adults in their 60s and beyond should aim for a well-rounded approach, combining muscle-strengthening exercises with regular cardio.
“Even a small amount of exercise can work wonders, no matter your age,” said a spokesperson for Vitabiotics. “There is something for everyone out there, from high impact running and weight-lifting, to a brisk walk or session of yoga it is all incredibly beneficial for your mind and body, including your bone and joint health”
According to the study, walking, swimming, and running were found to be the most popular forms of activity across all age groups. Encouragingly, a massive 85% of participants said it’s never too late to start exercising.
“We’ve all been there,” the spokesperson added. “Exercise can be easy to put off and leave to another day. But you may go on to regret it, as our stats show you can feel a real drop in energy immediately.
“An active lifestyle, combined with a healthy diet and good nutrition, is really important at every age of life to support your body, health and wellbeing.”
