The Sony ULT Wear headphones offer quality noise-cancelling and powerful bass. These UK retailers have dropped the price – here’s where to buy them for £61 less than usual
There’s nothing worse than having a trusty pair of headphones or earphones break before a long haul flight, your gym session, or at the start of your weekly commute. Well, that’s exactly what happened to me as my favourite (and evidently overused) Bose pair gave up the goose – leaving me searching for another set.
Bose, Sonos, Sony, and Apple AirPod Max were all options on my wishlist, but price played a huge deciding factor. I was gifted the Sony ULT Wear pair at Christmas – they deliver great quality sound without an eye-watering price tag – and they’re now £61 cheaper to buy.
Amazon is matching Sony by offering a £61 price drop on the ULT Power Sound pair. Shoppers can also find a discount on the set over at Currys, however this is showing as £1 more expensive than Amazon.

I’d originally been looking at the Sony WH-1000XM5 thanks to their rave reviews, but at close to £300 these were out of budget, despite the edge they have over the ULT Wear pair when it comes to audio, sleeker design, and premium sound. What’s great about the cheaper Sony ULT Wear is what you get for the price – a reliable pair of headphones with great quality, portable design, and mid-range noise cancelling.
Design wise, and there’s the selling point of being foldable and with the added protection of the travel case make them easy to throw in bags and take on the go. If I had to pick out one downside to the design, though, it would be size – in comparison to my old Bose Quiet Comfort pair (from 2017) they are a lot chunkier.
The selling point of the Sony ULT Wear, well for me, is the excellent bass – this won’t be to everyone’s style as it focuses on the booming sounds in music (the low-frequency), I am a huge fan of it though. It makes the lower tones throughout the bass sound louder and much more prominent.
This does depend on the music you like listening too, bass in general is ideal for hip hop and electronic music – and this Sony pair will certainly amplify it for you. If pop is more your go-to then it will sound more engaging – Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams, Sam Fender and Post Malone are my ‘on-repeats’ at the moment.
This can be switched on and off as you like, in the click of the obvious ULT button. As well as this, there’s the Ambient Sound Mode, which can be pressed on with the smaller NC/AMB button on the left side – which helps bring in faint sounds from outside, something I like to use when on walks or outside and want to hear traffic and people. And when you’re in an environment where you want complete uniterrupted sound (and just the music) you can press it again to block out distractions – something I use on flights.
