Kim Kardashian’s latest marketing stunt for her swimwear brand, SKIMS, has caused a stir after a giant blow-up doll resembling her was placed in Times Square.
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s latest promotional stunt for her swimwear brand, SKIMS, has sparked quite a reaction.
In a bizarre move to promote her new swimwear line, a giant blow-up doll was placed in the heart of Times Square, New York. The inflatable figure, designed to resemble Kim’s famous curves, was dressed in a blue swimsuit similar to one Kim had recently worn herself. It was positioned on a long box with the SKIMS branding prominently displayed.
The doll, which was said to mirror Kim’s hourglass figure with its busty and small-waisted proportions, quickly caught the attention of passers-by. Kim herself shared the spectacle on Instagram, writing: “OMG… I cannot believe there is a 60 foot float of me in SKIMS Swim in the middle of Times Square.”
However, not everyone was impressed. Fans quickly took to social media, ridiculing the over-the-top stunt. Many said the doll looked “terrifying,” with its face partially covered by its own arms. Several users voiced their criticism, with one writing: “Nah there’s children around. This ain’t it.”
Another added: “Such an unrealistic representation of a women’s body.” A third penned: “I love skims and this is so awful.” A fourth furious user wrote: “Tacky AF, tone deaf, ego centric. Maybe the worst product campaign launch ever.”
Others took aim at the city council, questioning their decision to approve such a display. One user wrote: “To whomever at the city council who approved this: are you ok?” Another added: “That’s too much now …..!!!!! Violating public place.” And a sixth critic chimed in: “This is so repulsive.” While the marketing stunt may have grabbed attention, it’s clear that many fans were not impressed with the bizarre blow-up doll in the middle of Times Square.
Last month, Kim chose to stay silent on her ex-husband Kanye West’s ongoing rants on X (formerly Twitter). Instead of addressing his behaviour publicly, the reality TV star appeared to focus on her businesses. She shared a link to her online store, Kardashian Kloset, where she sells second-hand designer items, without mentioning Kanye’s bizarre posting spree.
With a clip of items available, including a sheer Jean Paul Gaultier that wouldn’t look out-of-place on Kanye’s wife Bianca Censori, Kim, 44, posted a link to buy the items. She went on to share skincare items and sunglasses, with no reference to her ex’s social media meltdown.
Following his problematic appearance at the Grammy Awards this week, Kanye has sparked outrage among fans and critics alike due to his inflammatory posts on Twitter, formally known as X. Taking to social media over a three day period, the dad-of-four has posted anti-Semitic comments, claimed he has “dominion over” his wife Bianca, 30, and also described a top with a swastika on as an “art piece”.
