The festival sees a range of never-before-seen real ales from countries across the world sold at Spoons, which includes beer from brewers in Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA
Wetherspoon has made a big change to its drink menu across its 900 UK pubs from today – and beer fans will love it.
The beloved pub chain has brought back its Spring Beer Festival from today, and it will be running until Sunday, March 16 next week. The festival sees a range of never-before-seen real ales from countries across the world sold at Spoons, which includes beer from brewers in Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA. Overall, there are 30 real ales for Brits to try over the 12-day event.
In addition to featuring a range of malt and hop varieties from around the world, there are beers that include cherries and cocoa beans in their ingredients. There are also vegan options available. Tasting notes on all of the beers will be on hand in the pubs, as part of the festival magazine, and on the app.
Prices of pints can cost as low as £1.69 at selected Wetherspoon pubs, but the vast majority will charge £1.99 for the pint. As prices vary across its pub estate, some boozers will be charging £2.49 for a pint. Punters can also order three third-of-a-pint tasters for the price of a pint if they fancy trying more of the beers on offer.
Some of the most exciting pints to try at this year’s Spring Beer Festival include the Wallaby by Australian brewing company Penny Red which has tropical, passion fruit, and citrus flavours, and Estuary Session Ale by Canadian brewing company Land & Sea, which has fresh and floral notes.
Marketing manager Jen Swindells said: “The festival is a great celebration of real ale. It will allow us, over a 12-day period, to showcase a selection of superb value-for-money beers, including those from brewers as far afield as Canada and New Zealand, as well as those closer to home.
“This festival features five female international brewers, with many of the beers having been brewed, or the brewing assisted, by female brewers. Indeed, in the past, most beer was brewed by women – known as ‘brewsters’. The event will also give customers the opportunity to enjoy beers which have not previously been available in the pubs, as well as those brewed especially for the festival.”
