A mum has shared how much she spends on monthly bills while living in the UK and people were floored by the costs. They couldn’t believe how much it all added up
We’re all on the hunt for ways to trim our expenses, especially as bills continue to rise.
The escalating cost of living is no secret, and a recent revelation by a mum about her monthly expenditure left many stunned. The mum, who goes by budgetingmumofficial on TikTok, shared the staggering amount of money she spent on her February bills, highlighting the steep costs of maintaining a home for a small family in today’s economy.
In her video, she disclosed: “This is how much we spent as a family of four in February. So first, our mortgage is £1,097 per month.
“We’re trying to get this down, so we do make an over-payment as well, and I try and aim for at least £200 a month in over-payment.”
She added: “Our gas and electric is £150 per month. This is with Octopus, and includes running our two electric cars.
“My husband and I have a joint life insurance policy, so we pay £71 per month for that. Our council tax on a three-bedroom, semi-detached house in the Midlands is £162 per month.
“We pay £56 a month for water. For the four of us, we spent £515 on groceries this month, which I don’t think is too bad, but it’s still a lot of money.”
She also outlined other expenditures in the video, including their child’s swimming lessons, travel costs and various other purchases. The savvy saver revealed her secret to keeping tabs on expenses – an app named Snoop. She swears by its effectiveness in monitoring spending habits.
Since she posted the video, it’s racked up hundreds of views and sparked a lively discussion in the comments section. Viewers didn’t hesitate to share their personal experiences.
One exclaimed: “Wow – I live in a semi-detached in Cornwall and pay £450 a month for my mortgage!” Another voiced their apprehension, adding: “We’re just about to go into a mortgage. I’m so worried.”
A third wrote: “We’ve always been on such a tight budget for so many years. I’ve started a side hustle, which is helping so much.”
